BAGENALSTOWN AC -Well done to all who competed in the recent Carlow Novice Cross Country races in Tinryland. The men’s Novice team was led home by David Devine, Bill Barry, Sean Dillon and Fergal Foley and were followed closely by Rock Pender, Christian Dermody, Patrick Abbey, David Ashmore and John Cassidy.
Congratulations also to Kathleen O’Neill who was third in the ladies 5km and young Oisin Dillon who was third in the Fit for Life 3km, and is definitely one to watch in the future. Training is at 4pm on Saturdays, meet at river opposite Rudkin’s Mill, all welcome.
FUN RUN/WALK - Presentation De La Salle College will hold a Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, April 21, starting at 12 noon from the college. Route via Dunleckney. €5 students. €10 adults and €20 for a family. Registration at the school office by Thursday, April 18 at 4pm. Light refreshments served in school afterwards. Spot prizes galore. Special prizes for best fancy dress, most unusual way of completing the distance by a four person team and most unusual way of completing the distance by an individual.
BEREAVED - Deepest sympathy to the family of Mrs. Moyra Quinn, Kilree Cottages and Beechwood Nursing Home, who died recently. Moyra was a gentle, kind and caring lady and will be sadly missed by her family, neighbours and friends. May she rest in peace.
FASHION SHOW - Spring/Summer Fashion Show with a cheese and wine reception in Borris Vocational School on Friday, April 19 at 7.30pm sharp. Tickets €15. BAGENALSTOWN ROUNDERS CLUB - The Bagenalstown GAA Rounders Club season is starting soon, and the committee is looking for new female players for their Senior Team. OLD MOBILE PHONES NEEDED - Queen of the Universe N.S. is collecting old mobile phones. Irish Autism Action and Children’s Health & Safety Educator (CHASE) have teamed up to raise awareness of anti-social behaviour and bullying. Queen of the Universe NS has registered its support for this important campaign.
SATURDAY CLUB SUCCESS - Muine Bheag Vocational School wishes to thank all those who participated in their annual Saturday Club. 54 students from 4th, 5th and 6th class from the surrounding schools took part for three Saturday mornings in January/February. The students had the opportunity to try secondary school life by engaging in different subjects including Metalwork, Woodwork, Home Economics, Science, Art, Computers, Maths for Fun, P.E and a fun table quiz. Feedback from the participants and parents was extremely positive and students are already looking
forward to next year’s club. A big thank you to all the staff and student leaders from Muine Bheag Vocational School who gave up their valuable Saturday mornings to help out. Muine Bheag Vocational School hopes to run summer activities in July, details will follow in the coming months.

CARLOW/KILKENNY HOME CARE - Bagenalstown branch of the Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care Team held their annual Christmas Day Swim or Walk and a cheque for the amount raised, €6,340, was presented by Mr. Billy Power to Mr. Ian Wilson, on behalf of the swimmers and walkers.
THE CASTLECOMER JUKEBOX - A play by Jimmy Murphy, who also wrote The Kings of the Kilburn High Road, will be staged for four nights in Killoughternane Hall on March 6, 8, 9 and 10 at 8pm nightly. This is only the second time this particular play has been performed in Ireland and is well worth seeing.
COMMUNITY GAMES - Congratulations to all the children who took part in the Art Competition. Rachel McCullagh was 2nd in the Girls’ U10. Craig Kehoe was 1st in the Boys’ U10. Craig will represent Bagenalstown and Carlow in the All Ireland Finals in May.
