Keep Piltown Tidy Committee - What’s your knowledge of Piltown? “Keep Piltown Tidy” is holding a night of knowledge in the Community Centre on Thursday March 7th at 8pm. Are you interested in the appearance of Piltown and surrounds? All residents of Piltown should be active in promoting the village as a place of welcome to potential new families and visitors alike.

Do you know who donated the “Water Pump” at Anthony’s Inn? Why not? After fifty years dormant, Mrs. Bernie Tiernan led a flotilla in her barge “Trust Me Scout” into Piltown in 2011 up the “Pil River”. What was the number or name of the previous boat that dredged sand and gravel to the creamery Quay? Who was the only Piltown man to be elected Chairman of Kilkenny County Council? What year if any did Piltown win the “Tidiest Bottle Bank” in the South East of Ireland? What was the prize received by “Keep Piltown Tidy”? If you don’t know the answers to some of these questions why not come along to the Community Centre on 7th March where a selection of video images of Piltown will be on view. All are welcome and if you wish to participate in any way give your name and details to the Committee members.

Owning Community Alert - A Community and text alert service has been formed in Owning following a meeting of over a hundred residents on Thursday last. Local robberies and incidents have highlighted the need for people in the district to be vigilant and the text scheme will allow faster sharing of warnings and escalation to Gardai. The meeting was addressed by local Gardai and Margaret Quinn of Muintir Na Tire who told the meeting of the efforts of many rural communities to be more vigilant and assist the Gardai. A meeting too for the Piltown and Templeorum areas is planned for 3rd April in Piltown Community Centre. All local residents are welcome to hear talks from Gardai and Muintir Na Tire on how crime can be tackled.

Gaa News - Piltown Juvenile GAA Club training resumes on Sunday 24th at 1145pm. Registration in the GAA Complex on Friday 22nd from 7.00-9.00 pm. We look forward to a successful 2013 season.

On 9th March Piltown GAA will host the ever popular Under 16 Jim Reid Tournament with games between some of the best local clubs from 10:45am. This is a competitive opener to the hurling season with a chance to see some of the emerging young talent in South Kilkenny.

Piltown were well represented on County under 21 panel. It is quite unique for Piltown to currently have three players for the club in training with the County Under 21 panel under Richie Mulrooney. The three players are Martin Paul from Jamestown, Kevin Walsh, Tower Road, and Nollaig Brophy, Killonerry. All three players from the Club have figured in challenge and Walsh Cup matches with the county.

In addition, Martin Power, a student at WIT, has played a prominent part in helping the college reach the knockout stages of the Fitzgibbon Cup. This was played in Galway last weekend, with WIT losing to Mary Immaculate Teacher Training College by 2 injury time points.

Footballers reach quarter final. Missing a number of regulars, Piltown lost the final game of the league section of the Intermediate Football Championship to Castlecomer. However, they have qualified for the quarter final of the championship. It is a very young side, with a number of current minor and last year’s minors playing prominent parts. James Farrell and Brian Gallagher deserve our credit for blending youth and experience, to do so well, in what is a very competitive championship, with mainly senior and intermediate hurling clubs in our section.
