JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP - Best wishes to the Lisdowney Junior Hurling team as they take on Kilmacow in the first round of the Championship this Sunday in Gowran.

UNDER 12 - The Lisdowney Under 12s Hurling Team bowed out of the Shield when they were defeated by Tullaroan in Johnstown on Sunday morning.

UNDER 8 CAMOGIE - The Lisdowney Under 8 Camogie Team played Dicksboro in their last game of the season on Saturday morning in Dicksboro GAA Club.

UNDERAGE TRAINING - Underage hurling training continues each Saturday morning at 10 am for Under 12s, Under 10s, Under 8s and Under 6s at Lisdowney Hurling Field.

LISDOWNEY LOTTO - The winning numbers in the Lisdowney GAA and Camogie Club Lotto draw held on Monday, 7th September 2012, were 4, 5, 11 and 26. There were no winners. Match three winner was Paul Murphy. Next week’s jackpot is €5,000. The draw will be held on Monday, 24th September 2012, in Mackey’s Bar, Gathabawn.

SCHOOL BOOKS AND UNIFORM SALE - Elaine McEvoy wishes to thank all those who donated and bought items in the School Booksand Uniform Sale which was held in Lisdowney Community Centre during the summer. All money raised has been given to Lisdowney Hurling Club towards a celebratory night for the Lisdowney Schools Hurling Team to mark their success in 2011-2012.

COMHALTAS - Lisdowney Comhaltas group music lessons have resumed and take place in Lisdowney Resource Centre at 7.30 pm each Thursday. A limited number of places are available for new members.

CANCER EXERCISE CLASS - A Cancer Exercise Class will start in Clontubrid in early October. This class is specifically designed for people who have suffered any type of cancer and are recovering or recovered. It recognises the value of exercise in recovery and prevention of cancer. SPEECH AND DRAMA IN FRESHFORD - Speech and Drama classes for 6-12 year olds will be held on Friday evenings at 6 pm and 6.45 pm at Oasis Childcare Centre, Freshford, Co. Kilkenny. Classes start this Friday. There will be two terms - September to Christmas and January to Easter at €75 per term. KILKENNY CONTACT - Kilkenny and Carlow Contact is a community based voluntary organisation for older people covering the Kilkenny and Carlow area. They are looking for additional volunteers to commit to one or two hours per week to befriend/visit older people who live alone in your area. They will have a stand at the Information Day for Older People being held in the Mill Family Resource Centre tomorrow, Thursday, 20th September 2012. OASIS CHILDCARE CENTRE - All childcare schemes have started again at Oasis Childcare Centre, Freshford. Parents who have not yet enrolled in the ECCE, CCS and CETS scheme should now do so. Oasis Afterschool will start in mid September. Children will be collected from school, homework will be supervised and children will receive a hot, healthy meal, lots of exercise and will partake in their activity club. NIGHT CLASSES - Night classes at Colaiste Mhuire, Johnstown, include the following courses: Welding - ARC, Welding - Tig Mig, Computers, Baking and cake decoration, Yoga, Pilates, Occupational First Aid, Digital Photography, Art, Aerobics, Gardening- Landscaping - Plan your garden. SOCCER - Soccer training for Under 11s and Under 12s has resumed and will be held at 6 pm every Thursday evening at Freshford Town Soccer Club at Woodview, Freshford. Registration is €20 per child. New players are very welcome.

MEMORIAL STONE - Dedication of a Memorial Stone, donated by the Miscarriage Association of Ireland, in memory of all babies who died before, during and after birth, will be held in St Kieran’s Cemetery, Kilkenny, on Saturday, 29th September 2012, at 2 pm. A short Service of Remembrance will also take place. All are welcome.

PEOPLE OF THE YEAR - Nominations for the Kilkenny People of the Year Awards 2012 close on the 28th September 2012. Person of the Year 2011 was Ayeisha Grogan, Aharney.

TRANSITION YEAR - DCS Group has announced details of its competition aimed at Transition Year students that they are rolling out nationwide after a very successful pilot scheme last year. The deadline to register interest is the 25th September 2012 and the deadline for final applications is the 25th October 2012. DCS Group said that rather than having to fund-raise to cover energy bills, they felt that secondary schools in particular could harness the ‘energies’ of their transition year students to enable them to engage from start to finish on a real-life project, managing energy consumption, installation, monitoring and reporting results and adjusting accordingly, in a healthy competitive environment which would ultimately benefit their school and their homes.
