TOTS TO TEENS - Tots to teens Group held their AGM on Wednesday evening last 12th September in the Community Hall, Freshford. There was a good attendance on the night and Mary Crosby was re-elected as Chairperson. Secretary is Janet Bergin and Karen Brophy Treasurer. PREO is Caroline Bowden. Rehearsals will take place in the Community Hall every Monday evening form 4 – 6pm commencing on this week. VOLUNTEERS - Kilkenny Carlow Contract is a Community based voluntary organization for older people covering Kilkenny and Carlow area and are presently looking for additional volunteers to commit to one or to hours per week to befriend/visit older people who are living alone in the area. The Group are having a stand at the Information Day for Older People being held at the Mill Family Resource Centre on this Thursday 20th September. FRESHFORD COMMUNITY MARKET - Freshford Community Market is held each Saturday from 11 – 1pm The number of stalls and a good variation of goods on offer are increasing also This is a community initiative and you are urged to go along and support your local Community and maybe have a tea or coffee and some homemade scones or cakes all locally produced.  GAA - St. Lachtains Minor Hurlers defeated Erins Own of Castlecomer in Ballyragget on Sunday last in the quarter final of the Championship. They now take on Dickboro in the semi final on Saturday 29th September. The U14 hurlers beat The Rower in the quarter final of the Shield competition on Sunday last played at Danesfort. The U16 hurlers bowed out of the championship recently when they were defeated by Tullaroan in the semi final played at Kilmanagh. Team: J.Campion, H.Burke, D.Quinn,D.Dleere,D.Rafter, P.White, S.Dawson, E.Hennessy, D.Brennan, B.Lyng, L.Maher, J.Bowden, R.Walsh, J.Quinn, P.Maher, A.Garrett, P.J.Dalton. Training continues for the Intermediate panel as arranged. They played James Stephens in Pairc Lachtain recently. Due to the drawn All Ireland final, the Intermediate and Senior championship will not resume until mid October. Local hurler Brian Kennedy was a member of Kilkenny U21 Hurling team who were defeated by Clare in the All Ireland final on Saturday last at Thurles. Brian lined out at corner back . Brian was a member of the Kilkenny Intermediate team beaten by Tipperary in the All Ireland final recently. JUNIOR CERT - Congrats and well done to all the boys and girls from the Parish who received their Junior Certificate results last week in the various secondary schools in the surrounding areas.

SOCCER - Freshford Town had a great start to this years season with wins forboth the under 12 and under 14 teams. The under 12’s were at home to
Thomastown A won in their first game of the news season in Div 1 having been promoted form Div 2 last season. They came out winners 4 - 1 with goals coming from Aidan Tallis, Cian Freaney, Dean Brophy and Stevie Dunne. .  A brilliant all round squad performance and while it was difficult to single out individual players after such a great performance Eoin Delaney and Man of the Match CJ Daly can be very proud of their displays The under 14’s won away to Paulstown on Saturday on a 4 - 0 scoreline with goal scorers Cathal o’ Leary, Niall Brennan and Seanie Rafter..  A brilliant all round squad.Meanwhile the Junior side had a great game against Fort Rangers last
Sunday in the Maher Shield played at Danesfort.They were unlucky to be beaten 4 - 3 on penalities after the game finished level . Their first game of the League is on Sunday next at home to Ballyraggett side with kick off at 2pm. The under 15 boys are away to Bridge Utd on this Saturday with kick off at 3pm.
Youths are at home to Bridge Utd at 2.30 in the Henderson Shield on Saturday next. Training for 5-9 year old recommenced on Saturday last after the summer break and continues every Saturday morning 12 - 1 with Gary Barnaville in charge. UPPERCOURT RESTAURANT – The Loop Restaurant at Uppercourt Manor, Freshford is open every Sunday form 12.30 to 5pm. ON HOLIDAY – Jamie Kennedy, Kilkenny Street travelled home for All Ireland and spent holiday with his family from Australia last week. Also home on holiday is Michael O’Donnell and his wife who are also a keen GAA followers and Seanie O’Donnell Bohergloss home from England

OASIS CHILDCARE CENTRE – All Schemes have started again at Oasis Centre. If there is any parents who have not yet enrolled in the ECCE, CCS or CETS schemes they should do so now.

Oasis Afterschool service starts mid September. You can have your child collected from the local school, supervised homework, receive a hot healthy meal, with loads of exercise and the activity Club. SPEECH AND DRAMA IN FRESHFORD - Speech and Drama Classes for 6-12 year olds will commence shortly at the Oasis Childcare Centre, Freshford - starting on Friday, 21st September 2012. Marathon – Four local lads are taking part in the Dublin City Marathon at the moment – Andrew Martin, Paul Phelan, Noel Maher and Paul Dowling. . Sympathy is extended to Pat Walsh, Church Street on the death of his sister Peggy which occurred in England last week.
Also sympathy goes out to Helen McCarthy, Clintstown Road on the death of her father John which occurred last week in Templemore.

Rita Murphy late of Upper Grange Gowran who died last week was aunt of Margaret Campion, Luskenagh, Ballydaniel to whom sympathy is also expressed. Interment took place in Goresbridge Cemetery.

Relay For Life is coming to Kilkenny. What is Relay For Life? At Relay For Life hundreds of people gather to embark on a very special 24-hour journey.Relay For Life is an overnight , community celebration and a unique , empowering and fun event. At the heart of Relay is the opportunity to CELEBRATE Cancer Survivors and to REMEMBER those who have left us. We are currently asking people who may have been touched in any way by cancer to come and join in the CELEBRATION . Our Relay For Life will be held on Saturday and Sunday the 20th and 21st of July , 2013 at Scanlon Park , Kilkenny. We are recruiting teams of volunteers who will walk around the track in relay , for 24 hours , because cancer never sleeps!!. Otherwise team members are free to socialise , have fun and enjoy the fun packed day and entertainment.  ACTIVE RETIREMENT GROUP - Freshford Active Retirement Group meet in the local Community Hall each Tuesday at 3pm. New members are always most welcome. CAMOGIE NEWS - The Senior girls lost out to Thomastown in the All County League semi final on Monday last. The local girls travelled to Thomastown and it was the home side who got off to a blistering start with points from placed balls and from play. The local girls responding with just 2 points in the first half from Sinead Connery and Lydia Fitzpatrick. Thomastown went in leading at the break by 0 - 12 to 0- 2. The second half was a much closer game with scores from both sides, the Freshford girls responded with goals from Sarah Lanigan and Imelda Kennedy. Some fine saves by goalie Carol Kavanagh kept Freshford within reach of Thomastown. But in the end it was Thomastown who held out to win on a scoreline of 1-16 to 2-09. Team; C. Kavanagh, D. Daly, F. SPIN the wheel - There was no Spin the Wheel in Kavanaghs on Saturday night last The winner the previous week was Paul White, Inch who won himself €50. Second prize went to Billy King, Bohercrussia Street.. The draw will resume next weekend when the Jackpot will be €750. The draw is run each Saturday night in Kavanaghs as a fund raising for the local GAA Club The lucky winner of the draw for All Ireland tickets and overnight stay in hotel recently was Thomas Brennan, Sart, Freshford while the lucky winner of the signed Kilkenny Jersey was Billy Walsh, Kilrush.

SCHOOL - St.Lachtains National school reopened recently after the Summer holidays with many new children starting school for the first time. There is a Special School Year Mass in Freshford Church on this Wednesday morning at 9.30a and parents are invited to attend also.
