ALERT

Following the public meeting held in September regarding the setting up of a community Texting Alert System and the revival of the Community Alert two registration evenings will be held. The first is on Friday 4th October from 6.00pm to 800pm and the second is on Saturday October 5 from 2.00pm to 4.00pm in Danesfort Community Centre. Over the next week committee members will be calling to houses in the parish with letters and registration forms. If you are interested in becoming involved in the community alert, please let us know on the registration evenings.

SCHOOLBOYS

The schoolboy soccer season is getting into full swing and Fort are actively looking for new players in all age groups. In particular at under

12 (born in 2002) team could do with some fresh blood so if you are interested in playing with this team or under 8,9,10,11 and 14, please contact Jim Cashin on 086 0213881 or Jack Fitzpatrick on 087 6406408.

GOING STRONG

Going Strong Club resumed last Wednesday at 11.00am in Danesfort Community Centre. Our Club is open to everyone both male and female over 40. If you wish to pop in any Wednesday to check us out, please do so. Contact: 086 1666547.

BRIDGE

Bridge classes for beginners in Danesfort Community Centre commenced on Tuesday September 24 from 7.45pm to 10.00pm Contact 056 7727657 or 086 1666547. Bridge teacher is Annette Kennedy a member of C.B.A.I. Bridge Teachers Association.

YOGA

Our autumn classes resumed on Tuesday September 24 at 10.00am. New members very welcome. All you need are comfortable clothing, yoga mat, blanket, small pillow. Contact: 086 1666547 Refreshments included after each class (optional).

PARENT AND TODDLER

Danesfort Parent Baby and Toddler Group Meet on Monday mornings from 10.30am to 12.30pm in Danesfort Community Centre. Toddlers enjoy activities such as arts and crafts, action songs. When the weather permits all can enjoy outdoor parent and toddler walks on the adjoining trace. There is a healthy snack and drink available for all little ones with tea/coffee and snacks for parents. Fee: €3 per family. New members are always very welcome. Danesfort GAA & Parish Development Lotto draw Results Week 50. Draw took place on Monday September 23 in Delaney’s Kells. The Jackpot was €600 and Numbers Drawn: 16 26 6. There was No Winner. Five Consolation Prizes of €30: John O’Sullivan, Maise Hennessy, J & B Carroll, Tom Whelan, David Keane. Two Promoters Prizes of €20: Elaine Bookle, Kieran Walsh.On the night Kathleen Moran was also presented with her Jackpot cheque. Congratulations Kathleen and Thank You. GOLF CLASSIC

A Golf Classic will be held in Callan Golf Club in aid of Mount Carmel Supported Care Home. Teams of four, any combination cost €60. IRISH CLASS

Beginners & advanced Irish classes for Adults will take place in Droichead FRC in Callan. Classes will be tailored to areas of interest of the group. Each class will be €2 per person.

FLAG DAY

Kilkenny Alzheimer Society are having a bucket collection/flag day on Thursday the 3rd October and need volunteers to collect for us in Kilkenny town. An hour or two of your time would be a great help. Call 0567771230 if you wish to volunteer.

SOCCER

Kilkenny and District League defeated United Churches League 52 in Derdimus last Sunday, in their first game in the Oscar Traynor Trophy Competition. Two Fort Rangers players, brothers Eddie and Emmet Nugent, we’re brought on by Manager Ollie Walsh as second half substitutes, with Emmet duly scoring Kilkenny’s fourth goal.

Fort Rangers take on East End United, in Wallslough, at 11am on Sunday in the St. Canice’s Credit Union Premier League. Fort need to get points from this game to kick start progression up the league table. The currently lie one from bottom on zero points from four games.

Following Fort’s great away victory over Spartak Dynamo, in the first round of the Leinster Junior Cup, they have been drawn away, again to a Dublin side. In the second round they will take on Portland F.C. in three weeks time. In the FAI Cup they also face an away team when they travel to Offaly to take on Clara on Sunday October 13.

Danesfort Minor side have progressed to the Minor Roinn B semi

final by defeating Barrow Rangers by 1-11 to 0-13 in Hugginstown at the weekend. Pride of place must go to Danesfort’s Under 14’s who defeated Mooncoin, 3-9 to 1-13, in the Roinn B county final. Congratulations must go to the up and coming under 14’s.
