Intermediate Football-The Blacks and Whites Intermediate footballers got their campaign off to a bad start last Saturday when they were beaten at Tom Walsh Park by Ballyhale Shamrocks.
The Home side were missing a lot of regulars through college hurling commitments and injuries however they fielded an under strength side which competed well at all stages during the game. After going 1-03 to 0-00 down, the home side rallied and points from Jamie Byrne, Kevin Fitzpatrick and Michael Doyle steadied the ship. Ballyhale added another minor score before a sideline kick from Michael Doyle could not be dealt with by Ballyhale keeper Keith Nolan and landed in the net. Just reward for the effort put in by the lads which saw them trail at the break by just the minimum.
After the restart, Ballyhale pushed on and hit the back of the net within minutes. John O Grady in the Skeough goal pulled off a string of fine saves to keep Blacks and Whites in the game as the home side started to tire. Credit to them they battled away and picked off some fine individual scores through Michael Doyle who was very accurate all day. Ballyhale however always had a little to spare in the tank and some final point scoring from them sealed the victory on a scoreline of Ballyhale 2-07 Blacks and Whites 1-06. B & W team: J O Grady, A Barcoe, S Kealy, K Barcoe, P Joyce, N Kennedy, T Joyce, M Moloney, Jos Murphy, J Lennon, M Doyle, J Byrne, A Murphy, K Fitzpatrick, E Doyle. Sub: M Kelly. The lads now face Erins Own Castlecomer in the next round this weekend.
