TEAM NEWS Clifden United 1 v 2 Brookville AFC Brookville AFC took all 3 points in Clara last Sunday evening. Despite totally dominating the first half, the visitors only led 1-0 at half time courtesy of another Alan Ruth goal. Clifden took heart from the fact that despite not playing well in the first period, they were still very much in the game at the half way mark. The home team upped their game and were rewarded with an equaliser after 62 mins. Brookville introduced the fresh legs of Eddie Thornton and Gary O’ Keeffe both sides started to find the going tough on a now very heavy surface. With 15 mins remaining a long ball over the top was won by O’Keeffe and finished off again by Alan Ruth. Brookville missed a glorious chance with 8 mins remaining when Alan Ruth went for goal from close range. With his brother Stephen unmarked 6yrds out in front of goal Alan went for his hat trick but the Clifden keeper saved at the near post. With both sides making 3 substitutions and some injury time, the referee played 7 mins additional time but the visitors withstood all the Clifden pressure and held out for a deserved win. Best for Brookville were David Farrell, Liam Brennan, Johnny Kavanagh and Gary Hogan.
