LISDOWNEY COMMUNITY GAMES ATHLETICS - The Lisdowney Community Games Athletics will be held this Friday, April 19 at 3pm in Lisdowney Hurling Pitch. Events will be held for boys and girls in Under 8s, Under 10s, Under 12s and 14s. There will also be an Under 12 Boys and Under 14 Girls Long Puck Competition, so anyone wishing to take part in these events should bring their hurls. Medals will be awarded for first, second and third places in each event. Entry is €2 per child. All are welcome.
The Lisdowney Community Games Committee has also teamed up with Sam McCauley’s Pharmacies to promote Sun Safety and being sun smart as we head towards the summer. Sam McCauley’s have kindly donated samples of sun cream along with two expensive sun cream and beauty hampers for the event. The names of all children who take part in the Lisdowney Community Games Athletics will be entered into a draw and two children will each win a hamper for their lucky mums!
NEW MONTESSORI SCHOOL FOR LISDOWNEY - A new Montessori School will open in Lisdowney Resource Centre on Tuesday, May 7 from 9 am to 12 noon. It will be run by Helen Coogan, who is a fully qualified Montessori Teacher and holds a Level 6 qualification in Childcare. She has been working in childcare since 2008 and has worked in Montessori schools in Kilkenny for the last two years.
Lisdowney Montessori Play and Learn School is looking for children over the age of two and a half years and will be able to provide the Free Pre School Year for children between three and a half to four and half years. COFFEE/TEA DAY - Jacinta Fitzpatrick wishes to thank everyone who donated money to the Coffee/Tea Day on Friday, April 5. It was a great success and €2,030 was raised for the Irish Cancer Society. Jacinta was overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone.
JUNIOR A HURLING - Well done to the Lisdowney Junior A Hurling Team who had a good win over Carlow Town in Lisdowney on Saturday.
SCHOOLS HURLING - The Lisdowney Schools Hurling Team was defeated by Freshford School in Freshford last Wednesday.
UNDERAGE HURLING - Hurling has resumed for boys and girls from Under 6 up to Under 12 in Lisdowney GAA Club and will continue every Saturday morning from 10 am to 11 am. All are welcome. Children must wear helmets and shin guards.
LISDOWNEY GAA & CAMOGIE CLUB LOTTO - The numbers drawn in the Lisdowney GAA and Camogie Club Lotto on Monday, April 8 were 8, 10, 11 and 26. There was no winner. Match three winner was Tommy Maher.

TEENAGE CORE TRAINING - The Teenage Core Training course has begun. This course is suitable for 10 year olds to 18 year olds, male and female, and is excellent for injury prevention, good posture and improving your sport. Many children currently do ‘Core Exercises’, However, it is essential that they are taught how to do them correctly so that they will not harm themselves and will benefit more from exercises that they do in clubs and schools. OCCUPATIONAL FIRST AID COURSE - A FETAC three-day Occupational First Aid Course will be held in Clontubrid in May. It includes CPR and all aspects of First Aid including emergency treatments for burns, epilepsy, wounds, fractures and choking. Spaces are very limited. The cost of the entire course €190. SUBSTANCE ABUSE - The South East Regional Drugs Task Force (SERDTF), Kilkenny Community and Voluntary Forum and Kilkenny Leader Partnership are jointly organising a community consultation seminar on the subject of substance misuse. The seminar will be held this Friday, April 19 in the Pembroke Hotel, 11 Patrick Street, Kilkenny from 9.30am to 1.30pm. Places can be booked at 051-841144.
LOVE CAKES - Please bake a Love Cake for the Home Care Team. This involves baking a cake, bringing it into Oldtown Hill Shop on High Street where it will be judged. You can then take your cake and eat it. €5 should be donated towards the Home Care Team. The prize for the winning cake will be to have your house cleaned, top to bottom, by McCreery Contract Cleaners and your own Personal Butler for the day. This is all part of the Romantic Gathering in May.
FLORA WOMEN’S MINI MARATHON FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS - Many ladies from the parish have signed up for the mini marathon in aid of the local schools. All support will be greatly appreciated. YOUTH 2000 - Youth 2000 Ireland will host a youth retreat in Castlecomer Community School from this Friday, April 19 – Sunday, April 21. The weekend will consist of workshops, drama, inspirational talks, testimonies, prayer, music, games and plenty of chill-out time. The retreat, which is for young people aged 16-35 years, starts with registration on the Friday night at 8 pm. Under 18s must download a booking form from the website.
