GREAT ACHIEVEMENT BY FORT PLAYERS
More good news for Fort Rangers this week, when it emerged that three players had won Kilkenny player of the year awards, in their respective age groups. Andy Hickey claimed the Under-11 division 2 award. Andy had a great season and this team were just pipped for the league title, finishing runners up to Deen Celtic.
The Under-13 team won 13 and drew 1 of their 14 Division Two League games to comprehensively clinch the title. This great achievement has been crowned by Diarmuid Phelan deservedly winning the player of the year award. Diarmuid had a very good season in a squad that went from strength to strength and will now play in Under-14 Division One next season. Both the Under-11 and Under-13 squads plus the two aforementioned players of the year, will be presented with their prizes, at the schoolboy awards night tonight, Wednesday June 26 at 8pm in Springhll Court Hotel.
On to the Youths Division One player of the year and Emmet Nugent’s magnificent season has been rewarded by deservedly winning this award. Emmet scored well over 20 goals for the Fort Rangers youths team, and also starred for the Kilkenny Youths team. He also played a vital role in keeping Fort’s Junior team in the Premier Division. This is the second season in a row that Emmet has claimed Kilkenny Player of the year, he won the Under-17 award last year, and he looks like having a great future on the playing field. He receives his trophy at the junior awards night this Friday June 28, at Langtons Set Theatre at 9pm.
Congrats also to Eddie Nugent who won the Fort Rangers Junior Team players player of the year. This is just reward for having a very good season and scoring some vital goals in Fort’s successful battle to avoid relegation.

Danesfort’s Paul Murphy was a big loss to Kilkenny, when he was stretchered off the field in the first half of the Leinster Senior Hurling semi-final in Portlaoise last Sunday. Kilkenny could only manage a draw 1-14 to 0-17, with a well taken T.J. Reid injury time point. Paul was replaced in the corner back position by fellow clubman Paddy Hogan. The sides must meet again in Portlaoise this Saturday evening. Sunday’s game is the first time in 55 years that Kilkenny have failed to beat Dublin in the Leinster Championship. Lets hope Paul,s injury is not too bad and that he will make a speedy recovery.
