TREE BROKEN-It’s so disappointing but another tree was broken last week at the entrance to Barrowmount Drive. It takes so many years to get a tree to that stage and a couple of minutes to destroy it; you have to wonder what fun anyone could possibly get from doing this kind of thing. We can get cross and annoyed all we like but it won’t change a thing, the tree is broken. The guards have asked that we report any incidents even if we think they are minor to them, just pick up the phone and do it.

COUNTY DEVELOPMENT PLAN-Kilkenny Borough Council and Kilkenny County Council have commenced the review of the Kilkenny County Development Plan and Kilkenny City & Environs Development Plan.

What is a Development Plan? The development plan is a blueprint for the planning and development of your area. The plan states the authority’s policies for land use and development management and promotion. For example, it sets out where roads, water supplies, sewerage are to be provided and it zones land for particular purposes (housing, shopping, schools, factories etc.). This will affect what type of buildings can be constructed and the use to which land can be put. It affects many facets of daily economic and social life: where you can live, what services are available and where developments with job opportunities are to be sited. A new plan must be made every 6 years; the current plan is from 2008-2014.

A public consultation period will be underway between the 15th June and the 24th August 2012 during which the public and other interested bodies are invited to make submissions. A number of themed public meetings will be held during this time. All are welcome to these events. addition, you are invited to make a submission to the Councils regarding future policies and/or objectives that you perceive should be reviewed/ included in the new plans.

Submissions should be received no later than Friday, 24th August, 2012. Any comments received will be very much appreciated and will be taken into account. Written submissions can be made to: Forward Planning, Kilkenny County Council, John Street, Kilkenny. Submissions or observations in electronic format can be e-mailed to ourplan@kilkennycoco.ie. Please include your name and address on a separate page to the content of your submission. This is to assist Kilkenny County Council in complying with the provisions of the Data Protection Act.
