Shamrocks - Congratulations to our three All-Star recipients! TJ Reid won his first All-Star, which he has been fighting hard towards for four years now. Henry Shefflin won his 11th award, making him the most decorated All-Star winner in either Football or Hurling ever! Young Ger Fennelly also won an All-Star for his performances with London in the Christy Ring competition during the year. On top of that Henry then saw off Joe Canning and Danesfort’s Paul Murphy to win an incredible 3rd Hurler of the Year! Again, the only man to hold three such awards (2002, 2006, 2012).
Tommy Shefflin’s Shamrocks senior team have made it to the senior County Final. They overcame the challenge of O’Loughlin Gaels in the semi-final to book their place in the final. Shortly afterwards on the same field a consistently under-rated Dicksboro defeated the reigning County Champions to book their place in the Final in two weeks time.
The team have been playing well in recent weeks and great credit must go to some under-rated players who have shone for them. Michael Dermody’s move to wing half-back was an inspired one and he has performed consistently well there, winning high and low ball and delivering to a star –studded forward line. Paul Shefflin, Aidan Cummins and Bob Aylward are defying their biological clocks to deliver also. Naturally you expect a team with so many county and ex-county players to do well but they cannot afford to be complacent against the under-estimated, young, fit and fast Dicksboro team as St. Martin’s, Dunnamaggin and James Stephens have in recent games.
The Shamrocks hosted their biggest game for nearly a decade in the field in the last few weeks. Over 3000 attended the Championship clash of Carrickshock and O’Loughlin Gaels with what seemed like nearly as many cars. A fair bit of organization and management was undertaken by Club Secretary Sean O’Sullivan and the other members of the committee. They would like to thank everyone who volunteered on the day too!
