Johnstown: Late Mrs Kitty McCabe

Mrs Kitty McCabe R.I.P - We offer out deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the late Kitty Mc Cabe, Canal Road, Johnstown who died on St Stephen’s Day in St Luke’s Hospital. A member of the Curran Family, Warrenstown she was predeceased by her brothers Eddie, Mick and John.Kitty lived for many years in New York where she met her late husband Patsy a native of Co. Cavan.

After his sudden death at a very young age she returned to Ireland with her four children and settled in Johnstown. A very outgoing friendly lady she was involved in ICA and was always a willing hand at various parish functions. She was a great lover of Irish Dancing particularly set dancing. Her passing has come as a great source of sadness to her family, son Patrick, daughters Peggy, Mary and Cathy, sons in law, daughter in law, sister Peggy Donovzn, sister in law Maisie, grandchildren, many cousins, neighbours and friends. Burial was in Johnstown Cemetery after requiem Mass last Saturday. May she rest in peace.

Set Dancing - Set dancing classes resume this week in Crosspatrick Hall on Tuesday nights at 9pm. Beginners welcome. Classes will continue to Easter.

Church Caretakers - The first of the two collections for the Church caretakers in the parish will be taken up at all Masses on the weekend 19/20 January. The usual collectors are asked to attend. A generous response to the collection is urged in appreciation of the many hard hours of work put in to keep the churches in such pristine condition. The care and attention in preparing the churches for various events including funerals, baptisms, marriages etc is a great blessing to the families involved and should be a source of pride and appreciation to the local parish as it is always admired and remarked on by visitors.

All weather soccer - The management at the all weather pitches at Colaiste Mhuire are encouraging parishioners to get fit by using the all weather pitches. There are excellent facilities available with hot showers and state of the art surfaces. All one needs is to contact 10 or 12 friends and book a session on 087 0485328. This is an ideal time for pre season training for local GAA players before the serious training starts in Feb. The pitches are available to both ladies and gents.

Whist Drive - The final whist drive for 2012 was held in St. Marys Hall on Dec 28th. The winners were top score.. Robert Calbeck, other winners were Emma Calbeck, Pat Delaney, Margaret Rochford, Lauren Calbeck, Richard Calbeck, Veronica Muldowney, Ross Handcock, Tom Cooke, Clare Handcock. Kathleen Phelan, Alison Calbeck. Raffle winners were.. Catherine Cuddihy, Mary McEvoy, Breda Brennan, Mary Orr, Chris Touhy. The next whist drive in St Marys Hall is on Fri Jan 14th proceeds going to Bothar.
