FOOTBALL-The senior footballers scored a great victory over Thomastown in the opening round of the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Senior Football championship in Bennettsbridge on Saturday afternoon last. Despite being behind by a large deficit midway through the second half, the locals produced an amazing comeback to snatch victory in injury time. The locals were awarded a penalty and Barry Murphy was on hand to calmly put the ball in the net to secure a memorable win. Well done to all the players who performed so well.

The under-14 footballers also secured a narrow victory over St. Fiacre’s in a thrilling game played in Tom Walsh Park on Sunday morning last. The home side led by two points at half-time and this lead increased to six points during the second half. But Conahy showed their courage by coming back in dramatic style and winning by three points in the end, 4-4 to 2-7.

HURLING-The junior A hurlers commence their season when they travel away to Lisdowney on Sunday morning next at 11.30 a.m. The intermediate hurlers also continue their preparations with a practice game against Fenians in Johnstown on Saturday afternoon at 4.30 p.m. The minor hurlers also begin their competitive season when they play host to Danesfort in the Polo Grounds on Monday next at 5.30 p.m.

BÓRD NA NÓG REGISTRATION-Juvenile Training (Under-6 to under-12) recommences on this Saturday, March 23rd at 10.30 a.m. Parents are asked to note that registration fees for 2013 can be paid on that morning from 10 a.m. Registration costs €20 for one child, €30 for two children and €40 for three or more children. Information will be given to families through the three schools in the parish. If any parent or player has paid their registration already, please note that permission slips for first aid/transport still must be completed and returned. Further information can be sought from any member of the Bórd na n-Óg committee.

CAMOGIE-Conahy Shamrocks Camogie club hold a clothes recycling collection in the Polo Grounds on Saturday, April 6th. All clothing material can be taken and must be delivered between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Congratulations -go to Niamh Delaney and Róisín Phelan who were members of the Loreto Convent team who defeated St. Brigid’s from Galway in the All-Ireland Junior Colleges Final last weekend. Amy and Danielle Morrissey, Sarah Molloy and Katelyn Leahy were part of Castlecomer Community School’s team which drew the All-Ireland Junior B final against Our Lady’s of Templemore last weekend also. Gavin Nolan was also involved as team coach. The replay will take place in Urlingford on Saturday next.

FANCY DRESS-Thanks to everyone who supported the Fancy Dress Party in the GAA Clubhouse to celebrate St. Patrick’s weekend.

SOCIAL DANCING & VINTAGE CLUB-The next Social Dancing night in the GAA Clubhouse takes place on Saturday, April 6th. Conahy Vintage Club will also hold a presentation to local charities from funds raised from their recent Vintage Rally on that night.

LOTTO RESULTS-The numbers in the recent Conahy Shamrocks GAA Club Lotto draw were 13, 14 and 21. There was no jackpot winner so the consolation prize winners were Nevan Butler, Joe Nolan, Ann Marie Dunne, Liam Flynn and Toddy Lacey. The promoters’ prize winners were Conor Brennan, Shay Og Brennan and Julie Jackman. This week’s jackpot now stands at €5,700.

GOLF SOCIETY-The first outing of the year for Sarsfield Golf Society takes place in Waterford Golf Club on this Saturday, March 23rd. Tee times are available from 11.45 to 12.30 and new members are also welcome. Please contact Shay Healy today (Wednesday) on 087-6695076 if you wish to play.

CAKE SALE-The children of St. Colman’s N.S., Conahy wish to invite all to a cake sale at the school on this Sunday, March 24th at 11.30 a.m. (after 11 o’clock Mass in Conahy Church). Teas and cakes will also be served and all proceeds are in aid of Conahy Community Playgroup. Please be sure to support this very worthy cause.

CONAHY COMMUNITY PLAYGROUP-Conahy Community Playgroup is now enrolling for September 2013. Children who are aged between 2 year and 6 months and 4 years old can apply. Children who are due to start Primary School in September 2014 are also entitled to a free preschool year (ECCE Scheme). If your child does not yet qualify for the ECCE scheme, he/she may qualify for a subsidized rate under the CCS scheme.
