If you wish to fish the Garlic Meadows this year you will need to pay your membership at this meeting. Membership for adults is €20 and €10 for students.

WHITE COLLAR BOXING - Barrow Rangers Hurling Club and Young Irelands of Gowran have come together to have a White Collar Boxing Evening next Sunday in Langton’s of Kilkenny. Dubbed “The Battle of the Neighbours”, the evening will consist of 15 bouts of three 1 minute rounds. The players from both clubs have been in training for the past few weeks. The action starts at 5pm and admission is €20.

Carlow Farmers Hunt Point to Point - Carlow Farmers Hunt Point to Point takes place on Sunday 24 March 2013 at

EASTER EGG HUNT ON SUNDAY MARCH 24 - Scoil Bhríde Parent’s Association will also hold an Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday 24 March, the Sunday before Easter from 2.30 – 4.30. It costs just €3 or €5 for a family. You are invited to come along on the day for some fun and games or if you would prefer to sit and enjoy a cup of tea/coffee you are more than welcome.

KILKENNY HURLERS HEAD TO GOWRAN PARK - Kilkenny Supporters Club host a day’s racing at Gowran Park this Saturday 23 March. All races have been sponsored and it promises to be a great fun day out for all the family and the Kilkenny hurlers will be in attendance.

ELECTRICAL RECYCLE COLLECTION - We are very lucky in Goresbridge that there will be an electrical waste collection on Tuesday April 9. WEEE Ireland will have a truck in Glanbia from 2-5. It is a chance for all of us to rid our houses, garages, out houses of broken electrical appliances, anything that has a plug can be brought, the space that this could create in our houses. Start putting your electrical waste aside the date will be here before we know it, don’t miss out on this opportunity. This has been organised with the help of Bernadette Moloney, Environment Awareness Officer with Kilkenny County Council, GRD and a special mention to Kevin Hosey, manager at Glanbia for allowing the use of the yard.

METAL COLLECTION - GRD hope to have a metal collection day in the near future.

DEVELOPMENT TO GO AHEAD - A brave group of people took on the responsibility of pushing ahead with the development at the back of the school for which they need to raise a large sum of money to make phase one happen. It is a massive undertaking but it can be achieved with your help. It will be an absolutely wonderful facility to have in Goresbridge and it will be this generation’s legacy to our children and grandchildren.

SPLIT THE POT RESULTS - Shane Dwyer c/o The Barrow Breeze won €126, Pat Connolly, Cluain Mhuire won €20 and Michael O’ Neill, the Knock Lane won €20, so it was an all men affair this week. Thank you to all of you who play, the money is spent in the village and hopefully you can see the results. It costs just €2 to play and the help of the businesses that promote the draw is really appreciated.

MEMBERSHIP OPTION - Barrow Rangers have come up with two options to pay your annual membership by direct debit. Option 1 for €20 per month you get your membership, one lotto ticket per week and a Piltown Draw Ticket, Option 2 for €25 per month it pays your membership, 2 lotto tickets per week and a Piltown Draw Ticket.

SOCCER RESULTS - Bridge United A team lost 4-1 to Evergreen A, the scorer was Murty Broaders. Bridge United B beat A C Kilkenny in the first leg of the divisional cup. The under 10’s played Callan and the under 8’s played Thomastown at the weekend.

MORE ALL IRELAND MEDALS TO THE PARISH - Three Paulstown/Goresbridge Camogie players were part of the victorious Loreto college Junior Camogie team that won an unprecedented five in a row All Ireland junior titles last Saturday in Birr. Róisín Breen played at full forward while Rebecca Holden was on the half forward line. Lauren Blake was also part of the panel. On the day Róisín chipped in with 1-6, four of which came from frees. It was some week for Róisín, the junior All-Ireland on Saturday, the senior All Ireland the previous Saturday and on the Wednesday in between she was part of the Loreto under 17 soccer panel that won the All-Ireland in Dundalk. Just for good measure she was full forward on the Loreto Camogie Team that won the All-Ireland 7 a side earlier in the season. Just for the record, it was Loreto’s fifth junior title in a row and fourth senior title in a row which means they have done the double for the past four years.

LIBRARY OPEN - The library at Goresbridge Rural Development, Barrack St is open Mon – Fri, 9.30 to 1. There is a great selection of books to choose from, something to suit everyone. It is very simple there is no charge, you can bring books and take books in exchange, and even if you don’t have a book to bring you can certainly take some to read.

SILVER AND GOLD FOR DAVID - Congratulations to David Murphy, Paulstown who won a silver medal in the boys u 14 Shot Putt and went on to win a gold medal in the 60 m sprint u 14 boys at A.I.T. recently. David is a member of Gowran Athletic Club.

COMMUNITY GARDEN - If you are interested in learning to grow vegetables and herbs feel free to go along to the community garden behind the offices of GRD on Wednesday mornings. Dee Sewell from Greenside Up is the expert on hand to give advice. It starts at 9.30 and finishes at 11.30 it is very sociable, with a cup of tea/coffee and biscuits on hand also. SET DANCING - Adult Set Dancing resumes in Ionad Dara on Monday, February 4 for 10 weeks, €6 per class and beginners are very lucky.
