Mullinavat - A classic new venue

CLASSIC & VINTAGE CLUB - This year 16th June sees the Mullinavat Classic and Vintage Club hold their annual show at a spanking new venue. For the last number of years it had been held in Kilandrew but this year sees it move to Lismatigue on the Hugginstown Road from Mullinavat. While the show venue has moved it will still be as busy a schedule as ever with something for all the family. 2013 sees special guest Irelands Strongest Man James Fennelly come on board. James who has been on the Late Late Show and run his own fitness clinic in Kilkenny will no doubt be flexing his muscles on the day. On the machinery side of things there will be vintage cars, tractors, motorcycles and stationary engines on display in every shape and size. There will also be specially designed plaques for the best exhibits.

Another great feature of the event has been the Dog Show and while it might not be Cruft’s it is always keenly contested in all of the 14 classes that are on show. If we add to this Childrens Fancydress, Facepainting, Bouncing Castles and slides, Trade Stalls, Sheaf Throwing you can see as I said above it is a show with something for everybody. A monster raffle will be held on the day with some terrific prizes. So come along for a great day’s entertainment on the 16th of June you won’t be disappointed. MULLINAVAT GAA - The main hurling season has taken a backseat for the time being and the next rounds of the championship will not be until the weekend of the 12th July. However like any other club there is plenty activity with other teams representing the club. The junior B team played near neighbours Carrickshock lately and this resulted in a drawn game on a score line of Carrickshock 2-14 to Mullinavat’s 3-11. The juniors defeated Naomh Brid last Friday night in Mullinavat by 3-14 to 0-14 in the first round of the Paddy Cahill cup.

The under 14 team made the long journey to Ballyraggett last Monday night to play St Patrick’s and came away with a good victory winning on a score line of 6-17 to 3-6. Their next two fixtures are against Young Irelands Gowran and James Stephens. Tickets are now on sale for the Piltown Draw this is one of the major fundraisers that the club hold every year. The draw tickets cost €50 for 5 draws with some great prizes and tickets are available from any of the committee members. The profits from this draw enable the hurling club to support both the adult and juvenile club’s along with the camogie club so if you can at all please support your local club.

GRAVEYARD MASSES - This week sees the graveyard masses take place in all our local graveyards between Friday 31st of May and Wednesday 5th of June. The following is the plan for the week. May 31st May Bigwood @7,30pm Sunday 2nd June Mullinavat @11am Monday 3rd June Kilbeacon@7.30pm Wednesday 5th June Killahy@8pm

So the last opportunity to get your graves nice and tidy for the big day and all is needed is some nice weather. These occasions bring families together for what is a lovely ceremony and a fitting way to remember those who have passed on to their eternal reward. So hopefully we will be blessed with nice weather which is key to making this a very special occasion.

COMMUNITY LOTTO - No winner of this week’s jackpot so the prize fund for next week increases by €150. The jackpot now stands at a healthy sum over €10,000 and for €2 euro it could be yours. There was only one match 3 winner last week and that was Lee Halligan Main Street who won a cash prize. Best of luck to all taking part.

MULLINAVAT CAMOGIE CLUB NOTES - Congratulations and well done to Ciara Holden, a member of the Kilkenny Minor Team that won the All-Ireland on Saturday 11th May in Dungarvan. The club would also like to thank Corraig Construction on their sponsorship for 2013. The 12 a-side tournament which proved to be a great success last season will commence again in the upcoming weeks, with local teams participating.
