A consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon from Aut Even Hospital visited CBS Callan last month, where he gave a presentation to Transition Year students.
The purpose of Mr Neil Riley’s visit was to educate students about ear, nose and throat problems. He told the students about the most common complaints he encounters in a normal working week.
He discussed hearing problems and damage caused to the ear. He spoke about the throat and focused on common surgeries such as tonsillectomies as well as the effects of throat cancers.
Mr Riley spoke about nasal injuries and the surgeries to repair them. He also demonstrated an examination of the throat with the scope and allowed the students to have a look for themselves. They also looked at the ears and nose of their fellow pupils, and Mr Riley invited
questions and showed pictures of celebrities who had benefited from ENT surgery.
