TULLAHERIN CEMETERY MASS
There was a great turnout for the Annual Cemetery Mass in Tullaherin on Saturday. Celebrant was Canon Patrick Duggan, assisted by Rev Pat Dalton and Rev Dan O’Gorman. The lessons were read by Josephine O’Neill. Fr Duggan welcomed Rev Pat Dalton and wished him well in his new appointment as parish priest of Tullaherin. He thanked all who helped with the preparations for the mass and also thanked the people who look after the graveyard all year round. Tullaherin parish choir sang accompanied by Mollie Cahalane.
In Bennettsbridge, parishioners came in large numbers to the cemetery mass and although the rain was threatening the mass went ahead outdoors. Celebrant was Canon Patrick Duggan, assisted by Rev Dan O’Gorman, Woollengrange. The lesson was read by Joan Cleere. The choir sang under the direction of Doreen Griffin.
Canon Duggan thanked choir, eucharistic ministers and readers for their participation. He thanked those who set up the altar and acknowledged the enormous work carried out during the year by Kevin and Sean in the graveyard. Special thanks to Kevin for his painting of Calvary and the walls. He also expressed gratitude to those responsible for the maintenance of the church grounds.
The parish choir sang during the mass accompanied by Doreen Griffin.
Canon Duggan was sad to announce the death of John Warren, sacristan in Tullaherin for thirteen years and whose dedication and commitment will be sadly missed.
The marriage was solemnised in St Bennett’s Church between, David Phelan, son of Eileen and Liam Phelan Kilkenny and Patricia Keogh, daughter of Patrick and the late Bridget Keogh, Dublin. Celebrant was Canon Patrick Duggan, Tullaherin.
The bride was attended by her sister Karen and friends, Lisa Malone, Jenna Hallissey and Sharon Kelly. Best man was Jock Doyle and groomsmen were, Damien Donohue(cousin), John Hallissey and John Frayne(friends of groom).
The lessons were read by Geraldine Mitchell and Vera Donohue.
Nieces and nephews of the bride and groom recited the prayers of the faithful.
The Offertory Gifts were presented by, Eileen (groom’s mother) and Mary (aunt of the bride). Organist was Mollie Cahalane. A reception for family and friends was held in Langton House Hotel.
Sympathy is extended to the family of Val Moylan, Deerpark, formerly from Rathclogh, Danesfort, Road, who died recently. His sister,Mrs Angela O’Reilly lives in Newhouse and sympathy also goes to Gabriel, Godfrey and other family members.
People are reminded of the special fund raiser being held by The Bennettsbridge Community Hall Development Ltd and the Bennettsbridge GAA Club in the Kilkenny Dog Track on Friday, 30th August.
This is a joint fundraising initiative to raise much needed finance to assist the GAA Club in it’s
on-going involvement in the community and to contribute to the restoration and redevelopment of
the community hall.
The committee would be grateful for any support you can give to this venture and hope that the following options might be used in helping the cause.

Well done to the Bennettsbridge boys who acquitted themselves well in the Lisdowney Sevens Competition when they were runners-up to the Lisdowney team who were very popular winners.
Kilfane Handball Club have brought home four 2013 Leinster medals to date in the 60x30 code. Last week, Willie Holden won the M.B.Singles final by beating John Roche of Wexford while Noel Holden beat his great rival Ricky Barron of Wexford in S.M.B.Singles Final.
Then this week, Tom Dooley & Tom O’Keeffe brought two more Leinster gold medals to Kilfane by winning the S.M.B Doubles title in Garyhill. All the lads will have All Ireland semi finals coming up over the next few weeks. Many of our juveniles are playing in their Leinster championships during August. Well done and best of luck to all. Two of the four semi-final slots have been filled in the Clarke Cup, and the semi-final pairing should be known next week.
Rachel Hogan and Aoife Holden were in Croke Park in recent weeks to collect their 2012 Leinster awards at the annual handball All-Star awards. This was a fantastic achievement for both girls and a proud day for their families.
There was no winner of the Jackpot last week, Numbers chosen were, 4, 11, 21, 22. The jackpot now stands at €1450.00.

WALK FOR CYSTIC FIBROSIS
Sponsored Walk - Kilkenny to Bennettsbridge - Nore Valley Walk, Sunday 18th August in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.
Walk starts at picnic tables in Maudlin Street (Bottom of hill near motor tax offices) at11am sharp, Registration at 10.30am. €10 entrance fee which goes directly to the charity, sponsorship cards available, contact 085 8107890 for a card.
