The Annual Ladyswell Pattern will be held as usual on the Feast of the Assumption, on Thursday August 15 at 7:30 pm. This age-old local tradition dates back to the Penal Times when parishioners gathered at this holy spot to attend Mass and give expression to their deep rooted faith.
Many local people can recall, in the not too distant past, when they went along to the well for nine days to pray the rosary with their families and neighbours and make a Novena in honour of Mary.
Many people also took the opportunity to spend some time in prayer in the nearby Church at Ladyswell. A stone on the pier of the gate tells us that the building of the Church was completed on May 4 1811. The Church was closed late in the 19th century when the population of the area began to dwindle. Great credit is due to the organisers, for the resplendent way the ancient “Tobar Mhuire” is kept and maintained.
Danesfort Parish Field Day.
The annual Danesfort Parish Field Day will take place at the Sevenhouses Coursing ground on Sunday September 1 2013. This long established family fun day will once again have its great range of activities: hurling and camogie blitz, children’s sports, tug of war, amusements, bric a brac, trade stands, home baking and home grown produce and our famous tea room.
Once again we will be having an auction of timber and other valuable items. George Candler has agreed to take charge of the bidding for us.
Tickets for our raffle are being distributed to homes across the parish. Once again our raffle has some very exciting prizes generously donated by local traders.
The organising committee are looking for donations for the various stall:
1) Good quality Bric a brac. 2) Timber and straw for our auction.
3) Fruit, vegetables and home produce.4) Home baking for our stalls and tea room.
If you can help please contact any member of our committee or go to our Facebook page:Danesfort Field Day
