CLARA KARATE CLUB: - Classes in Karate for Kids will begin in Clara Parish Hall and will run on an on-going basis every Wednesday from 3:15pm - 4:15pm. The ‘After-School’ Kids Only Karate Class is for boys and girls aged between 4 years and 12 years old. Members of the club will be taught karate techniques and self-defence drills. There will also be a strong focus on physical fitness. Plenty of fun and games will also be incorporated in to the classes. Karate has many proven benefits for kids both physical and mentally, including: Physical Benefits: Better movement and control; Improved flexibility; Increased fitness; The ability to protect oneself Psychological Benefits: Improved confidence; Become more assertive; Improved self-esteem. The classes will be run by the Budo Martial Arts Centre which is already very well established in Kilkenny and has a large number of kids who train regularly in the clubs other Kilkenny venue’s. The first class is free of charge for all kids interested in trying out karate. No special gear is needed, just turn up in a tracksuit and away you go. THANK YOU - Clara N.S. Parents Association field day was held recently in Clara GAA grounds. It was a great success and a huge thank you goes out to everyone who helped in the preparations, helped on the day especially the parents of the children who have finished in Clara N.S. and also thank you to all the much appreciated sponsors. A new attraction this year was a pony and trap provided by Gerry O Brien and driven on the day by Jim Ryan. This went down a great treat with all the children. Well done to all.

CLARA GAA - Recent events; Both Clara Juniors and Junior B teams. The juniors missing a good few due to exams lost narrowlly to St. Martins by a point. The Junior B team played Mullinavat in Mullinavat in the Joe Walsh cup. From start to finish the game was quick and hard with good defencive play from both tems. The first half was a very low scoring half with Mullinavat scoring 2 points after 10 minutes of play. 5 minutes later Clara pointed a free scored by Eoin Curtis. A few minutes later Mullinavat got another point before Clara got their second point of the game coming when Tom Murphy fielded a high ball in turned his marker put the ball nicely over the bar. Mullinavat got 2 more points before the end of the half which left the score 5 points to 2. The second half of the game started with Clara getting a point from a free scored again by Eoin Curtis. The resulting puck out then landed in John Brennans hand and he went for a point but it drop short into the goalkeepers hand who in turn dropped it into his net. Mullinavat answered this with a point of their own. Eoin Curtis got his first score from play with a point from 20 yards. Mullinavat got back on top again with a goal and a point putting 3 point between the teams. Clara didn’t down at this stage and came back at Mullinavat strongly and got a goal for their efforts when David Mulrooney broke through tackels and put a hard ball across the box for the defencer to miscontrol it straight into his own net. Clara straight away had another shot on goal but it went out for a 65 which Eoin Curtis put over the bar. Eoin scored again 2 minutes later a point from the right side of the pitch. Mullinavat then got 3 unanswered points to go a point ahead but these were their last score of the game. Clara then opened up their forward giving Eoin Curtis the room he need to score 4 points in the last 5 minutes of the game to win the game. The final score Mullinavat 1-10 Clara 2-10. CHILDCASRE COMMITTEE - Kilkenny County Childcare Committee are holding a Free Parents Seminar for parents of children aged from Birth to 6 years on 11th June 2012 in Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel from 7pm-9.30pm. The seminar will be facilitated by Dr. Mary Roche, Education Consultant and will explore how reading books aloud can support young children’s early language development.
