heritage week-The Heritage Week event for 2012 is a visit to Tybroughney Castle, on Saturday, August 18th. Mr Robert Duggan will conduct this tour and refreshments will be served. Directions to Tybroughney Castle - from Mooncoin take the left turn at the Three Bridges, which is approximately a quarter mile before Carrick-on-Suir and is signposted ‘Tybroughney’. Tybroughney Castle is located approximately 1 mile from this left turn.
The first lecture of the season, ‘From Morse Code to Twitter’, will be delivered by Mr Padraig Laffan and will cover the electronic revolution which he witnessed during his working career. Mr Laffan, a former employee of RTE, is also
actively involved with the Federation of Local History Societies.
The October lecture, ‘New research into the mountain and island pilgrimages of Croagh Patrick and Skellig Michael’will be delivered by Mr Michael Gibbons.
On Thursday, November 29th, Mr MichaelWalsh (formerly of MET Eireann) will deliver a lecture on weather forecasting in Ireland. MET Eireann was set up in December 1936 and during 2012 celebrated its 75th year. This should prove to be
a popular topic, given the ‘summer’ which we have just experienced!
During the year the society introduced a membership card, which all paid up members should have received at this stage.

24 Hour Fishathon-A 24 hour fishathon takes place at Ardaire Springs, Mooncoin over 18th & 19th of August. The event is in aid of St. John’s ward (Children’s Cancer Care ward) starting at 7pm Saturday and finishing at 7pm on Sunday. There will be a BBQ,all proceeds for charity. Raffles with lots of good prizes and loads of entertainment on the day with a feast of music, traditional and ballads on Sunday afternoon.
