Lisdowney: Annual Clontubrid Barbeque this Friday night

CLONTUBRID BBQ - The previously postponed Annual Barbeque in aid of Scoil Naomh Fiachra, Clontubrid, will be held this Friday night (17th August 2012) in Mackey’s Bar, Gathabawn. Music will be by DJ Peter Dalton. A great night of fun is guaranteed. Admission is €10. Anyone who buys a ticket for the event will automatically be entered into the draw for door prizes which include a car service by John Tobin, a studio session and portrait by Pat Farrell Photography, a professional cake to your design by Sarah, a professional full body tan by Caroline and a Super Valu Hamper. Tickets are available from any parent of children in Scoil Naomh Fiachra, or on the door on the night. All support will be greatly appreciated.

UNDER 14 - Congrats to the Lisdowney Under 14 Hurling Team who won the Roinn B League Final on Friday night. They beat Mooncoin in the final in Bennettsbridge. On behalf of the team, Brian Kavanagh, Team Captain, thanked all of the panel and mentors for their commitment and hard work during the season.

JUNIOR HURLING - The Lisdowney Junior Hurling team had a significant win over Galmoy in the first round of the Northern Championship on Friday night in Freshford. There was a minute’s silence before the match began as a mark of respect for the late Mick Kenny, Grange, who passed away last week.

UNDER 16s - The Lisdowney Under 16s team bowed out of the championship at the weekend after being beaten by Conahy in Ballyragget on Saturday night.

UNDER 12s - The Lisdowney Under 12s team beat Dicksboro in a challenge game in Lisdowney on Saturday morning.

MINORS - The Lisdowney Minor Hurling team were due to play Johnstown last night (Tuesday) in Freshford. Result and report not available at time of going to print.

LISDOWNEY LOTTO - Tuesday, 7th August 2012 winning numbers were 10, 11, 14 and 26 .There were no winners. Match three winners were Padraig McCarthy and Esther Ryan. Next week’s jackpot is €4,500. The draw will be held on Monday, 20th August 2012, in Downey’s Bar, Lisdowney.

UNDERAGE TRAINING - Underage hurling training continues each Saturday morning at 10 am for Under 12s, Under 10s, Under 8s and Under 6s at Lisdowney Hurling Field.

CAMOGIE BLITZ - A camogie blitz for Under 10s will be held this Saturday morning starting at 10 am at Lisdowney Hurling Field.

FIT BACK & BUMPS - A new four-week educational and exercise course for Pre and Post Natal mums and mums-to-be will start in Clontubrid in August. Please phone 087 9537808 to book.

UNIFORM & SCHOOL BOOK SALE - Anyone with good condition uniforms or books on the current booklists are asked to give them to Elaine McEvoy, Theresa McGinn or Karen Cahill, or bring them to the Community Centre next Saturday morning at 10am.

SOCCER - Soccer training for Under 11s and Under 12s will resume at 6 pm this Thursday evening, 16th August 2012, at Freshford Town Soccer Club at Woodview, Freshford. A meeting of all parents and registration (€20 per child) will take place immediately after training at 7 pm at the Club Rooms. New players will be very welcome.

LEAVING CERT RESULTS - Congrats to everyone in the parish who received the results of their Leaving Certificate exams today. They are wished every success for the future.

ADULT EDUCATION - Colaiste Mhuire in Johnstown will shortly commence their PLC FETAC Level 5 and 6 courses in Business and Secretarial Studies, Business Administration, Engineering Technology with Agricultural modules, Early Childhood Care and Education (level 5) and Early Childhood Care and Education (level 6). Castlecomer Community School will commence their Fetac Level 5 Certificates in Business and Computers and Childcare with Special Needs. For more information, please contact either school.
