Conker Championships Award - The Irish Conker Championships have received the huge honour of being presented with the “Community Volunteerism” Award at this years Person of the Year Awards on Friday next the 26th October. This is a wonderful tribute to the Freshford Community and hopefully as many volunteers as possible will join the committee and attend the Gala Ceremony on the night. CONKER FESTIVAL - The 13th Annual Conker Championships take place on the Green Freshford on Sunday next the 28th October and promises to be better than before. Registration starts at 12noon. With competitions for under age boys and girls and ladies and Gents there will be a full programme and the Committee are busy getting ready and making sure that there is room for all the various stalls and usual side shows. Volunteers are needed for both Saturday and Monday for putting up and taking down tents etc. . Last years Champion Mark Graham from Waterford will there to defend his title. Mark had never taken part in Conker Competition before last year and he now plays full time. So go along to Freshford on Sunday next and take part in the fun and the Competition and who knows you could be a winner on the day or maybe even the Champ!!
OASIS CHILDCARE CENTRE - Halloween Disco – Oasis annual Halloween Disco will take place on Wed 31st October in the Community Hall at 6pm. Children are welcome to dress in fancy dress, lots of fun, goodie bags and screams guaranteed!
Red Carpet event – On Saturday next the 27th October at 4pm Oasis Childcare Centre will be rolling out the red carpet bringing in the popcorn machines for a showing of the Oscar nominated film ‘The Secret Book of Kells’. Cartoon Saloon animation artists who worked on the film Fabian Erlinghauser will be there to answer questions after the showing. Booking office open now at 056 8832700.
Adult Art Classes. Artist and art teacher Mick Cantwell has resumed teaching art classes to adults on Thursday evenings. Classes are taking place in Oasis Childcare Centre and run from 8pm – 9.30pm. Students provide their own materials. Contact Mick on 087 0636556. Limited places available.
TOTS TO TEENS - Tots to teens are now up and roaring! We are all looking forward to their forthcoming production of “The Lion King” featuring Madagaksker! Any one wishing to get involved behind the scenes on the nights of the show would be most welcome. If anyone has any costumes they might wish to donate or lend the Group would be most grateful (these will be returned afterwards) and this would be a huge bonus to the Group. This year’s emphasis is on animal and jungle type costumes.
In order to fund the shows fundraising is now on their agenda the Group held a cake sale in the Community Hall after Mass on Sunday last and thanks to all those who supported and helped out in any way.
You are invited to test your knowledge at the Groups table quiz on Friday November 30th in McGraths starting at 9.30pm. Table of 4 only €20. Prizes for the winning team and raffle on the night. All welcome!

Freshford Squash Club - The squash season has restarted and is in full swing in Freshford Squash Club. There is a blitz every Thursday at 8pm for both men and women. The club caters for all age groups from beginning to advanced. New members always welcome. The membership for the year 2012-2013 is as follows: €50 single, €70 married/family, €5 juvenile. Membership is due before you receive your key as locks for this year has been changed.

On Sunday afternoon last James Stephens and Graigue/Ballycallan met in Pairc Lachtain in the Senior Hurling Championship quarter final with the Village side coming out winners on the day.

SOCCER - Freshford Town had a number of teams in action at the weekend..
The Junior side had a great 5-0 win over Clifden Utd., in their home league game on Sunday morning. Sub keeper Roy Condon kept a clean sheet and saved a penalty in the game.
After a long wait to begin their season Freshford U11 boys finally got their chance to show off their skills and won convincingly 4-1 away to Evergreen. Cian Franey began the scoring with a well taken goal from a cross from Cormac Rafter who did some great work down the wing beating several players with both speed and skill. Luke Holohan got Freshfords second and his first ever goal when his left footed shot smashed to the roof of the net. Aidan Tallis was next on the score sheet with a fine individual goal to make it 3-0 before half time. In the second half the Freshford boys picked up where they left off and had numerous shots saved by the Evergreen keeper who played well and had a busy afternoon. Cian Franey got his second and Freshfords fourth . Evergreen scored a late consolation goal in the last few seconds, but the Freshford lads were on top form all day. Best for Freshford were Cormac Rafter, Aidan Tallis and Cian Franey, but a great squad performance by all the boys ensured a great beginning to the season. Squad: M. McCarthy, W. Cahill, A.Tallis, L. The U-15 boys were away to Clover Utd.The boys had a couple of scoring chances in the first half but just could’nt hit the net and just minutes before the end of the first half Clover were awarded a penalty to leave it 1-0 at half time. Freshford played well in the second half and with four minutes to the final whistle they were rewarded with the equaliser. The game finish 1-1 at full time.

They lost out to much stronger and more experienced city side on a scoreline of 3-0 .The girls have only started this year and have only had a few training sessions to date, so well done to all involved. Anyone interested in signing up for the U-13 girls team can contact any member of the club The U-17 boys had a walkover against Thomastown UTD . Training continues every Saturday morning for the 5-9 year olds with Gary Barnaville in charge . All boys in that age group are welcome to come along.

Marathon - Four local lads are taking part in the Dublin City Marathon on Monday next in Dublin and have been busy over past number of weeks in training for the event.
