Danesfort: Cian defends All-Ireland title

tetrathlon- In another action packed weekend of sport and skill Cian Drennan of Burnchurch, along with his team mates Mark Collins, Mike Healy and John Dillon, defended their 2011 All Ireland Tetrathlon Championship Title with great skill and accuracy to once again claim the title for 2012. Tetrathlon Championships is a difficult and demanding sport involving four disciplines, swimming, shooting, riding and running. The event took place at University Limerick and Crecora, Limerick over a two day period. Cian was placed in second position overall in the swim and did a personal best in his cross country run. The Warrington Team also won the horsemanship award for their riding ability on a beautiful and technical cross country course. The boys were presented with The IPC trophy and their rosettes by Dr. Peter Flynn Chairman of Tetrathlon and Mrs. Belle Balding, Chairman of Irish Pony Club. The boys are members of The Warrington Pony Club Kilkenny. The team will travel to Hartpury, Gloustershire England, this month  to participate at The U.K. Pony Club National Championships a prestigious invite due to their All Ireland win of last year. Best of Luck to the Boys for their trip.

LADYSWELL – The annual pattern-rosary, to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of our Blessed Virgin Mary, will take place in Ladyswell tonight Wednesday August 15 at 7:30pm.

KARATE CLUB - Classes in Karate for Kids will resume in Danesfort Community Centre on Tuesday 4th September 2012 and will run on an on-going basis every Tuesday from 4pm - 5pm. The ‘After-School’ Kids Only Karate Class is for boys and girls aged between 4 years and 12 years old. Members of the club will be taught karate techniques and self-defence drills. There will also be a strong focus on physical fitness. Plenty of fun and games will also be incorporated in to the classes.
 Karate has many proven benefits for kids both physical and mentally. The physical benefits include better movement and control, improved flexibility, increased fitness, and the ability to protect oneself. The psychological benefits are improved confidence, the ability to become more assertive and improved self-esteem. 
The first class is free of charge for all NEW STUDENTS interested in trying out karate. CIRCUIT TRAINING - Circuit Training with Margaret McCarthy takes place every Friday in Danesfort Community Centre from 7.00pm until 8.00pm. The circuit stations are adapted to suit beginners and experienced exercisers. Circuit training will help you tone, lose weight and get fit. You can work at your own pace with a mixture of weight training and cardiovascular work.  Classes are suitable for all age groups (teenagers to adults). Adults: €30 (5 weeks) or €7 individual.Teenagers: €20 (5 weeks) or €5 individual. Contact Margaret 086 8355725.

FIELD DAY - The annual parish field day will be on Sunday September 2. It promises to be a fun filled day for all the family with all the usual attractions including: Juvenile Hurling Blitz, Juvenile Sports, Face Painting, Bouncy Castles, Train Rides, Dog Show, Bric a brac, tug of war, wheel of fortune and a Monster Auction. Refreshments (tea, coffee, sandwiches, bread and cakes, sweets, ice cream, popcorn and burgers will be available on the day. To make this year’s field day a big success the organisers need your help with the following: Freshly baked bread, cakes, fruit, vegetables and other home produce.

Also required are items for the monster auction especially timber/firewood and straw. A call is going out for good quality items for the Bric a Brac stall, however due to the impending changeover to digital television we regret that we are unable to accept old television sets.

As ever the funds raised from the field day will be used to help maintain the fine facilities that we now have in our church, community facilities and GAA club.

GOING STRONG - Going Strong Club will meet on Wednesday August 22. Club members and craft students will have an open day for everyone to come along and enjoy an exhibition of their works. Afternoon teas and scones will be served. It promises to be a very enjoyable afternoon and there will be lots of raffle prizes on offer.

SOCCER - Fort Rangers F.C. will hold a schoolboy’s registration night at their ground in Wallslough, tonight Wednesday August 15 from 7.30 to 9pm. All interested in playing soccer, starting at under-8’s are welcome.

FUN RUN - Danesfort GAA 10K Fun Run: Training continues for this event (date later) every Tuesday and Friday evening  6.30pm at the GAA walking track. Still time to join in regardless of your level of fitness, and people who intend walking this event are also encouraged to attend. The walking track is a great facility, as the many users will confirm, so come along and enjoy.

ARTS AND CRAFTS - An Arts and Crafts sale will be held in the Harvester Pub on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 August from 2pm to 6pm. All the crafts have been hand made by local crafts people. Feel free to drop in.

ALzHEIMERS - Living with Dementia Family Carer Training. Are you caring for someone with Alzheimer Disease or Dementia? TOWNSHIP CHALLENGE -Transition Year Students take on the Niall Mellon Township Challenge: At the end of the year, Liam Mullen will travel to South Africa on what will be his 11th Township Challenge. This year, Liam will bring 4 transition year students with him, including his daughter Cliodhna. The students, who must fund their costs before travelling, have organized a 5k/10k Walk or Run “Family Day” in Woodstock Gardens, Inistiogue. This will take place on Sunday 12th August at 12pm. WALK ON THE WILD SIDE -Join local herbalist Jenny Dunne for an herb identification walk in the stunning woodlands of Ballykeeffe. Get a sense of the myriad of healing plants and their uses that grow in abundance in our native countryside. The walk will take place on Saturday August 25 between 2pm and 4pm. This is a free event.
