JUNIOR HURLING - Lisdowney bade fairwell to their championship dream on Sunday last when they were beaten by Thomastown in the Junior League semi final in Nowlan Park. WALTER WALSH - Kilkenny’s latest prodigy, was welcomed to Lisdowney’s final day of the Underage season on Saturday last where he presented medals to the schools team and Under 14 team. He also signed countless autographs and chatted to many of the young players. Thanks goes to Walter for giving up his time, and to all who helped out at underage training this year, and to all those who helped out on Saturday and provided the fantastic spread of food..

CONKER FESTIVAL - will take place in Freshford this Sunday. Loads of activities to keep all age groups happy. Please come along and see what suits you. Current leaders on 39 points are May Maher & Sheila Kelly, with Charlie Carter in 2nd place on 37 points and Noel Kilduff in 3rd place on 36 points. There are 45 contestants still in with a shout of winning the €500 prize money as there is a max of 15 points available for the last 3 questions. GET OFF THE COUCH - This free three week introduction to exercise continues in Colaiste Mhuire at 11.30am on Wednesday 24th October and 1st Wednesday in November. The aim of the course is to encourage everyone, no matter what level, to become a little bit more active than they are. All are welcome.
BRIDGE - Conahy Bridge Club are organising bridge classes for beginners. Mrs. Catherine Brennan, CBAI qualified bridge teacher will give the 8-week course in Conahy Hall. Classes will be on a Tuesday night from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm. COMMUNITY ALERT - Community Alert Awareness Week 2012 from 1st October 2012 until the 31st October 2012. Community Alert has been operating in rural Ireland since 1985 as a crime prevention programme. The programme is operated by Muintir na Tire in partnership with An Garda Síochána and harnesses the voluntary input of community members in almost 1,350 Community Alert groups which operate nationwide. It has over the years evolved into a Community Care, Safety and Crime Prevention Programme for rural communities. Each Community Alert group is organized on a recognized local community basis and has an elected committee and an associated Liaison Garda. The Community Alert volunteers regularly visit the Older Person in their own home to alleviate loneliness and isolation. They also ensure on their visits, that if the Older Person has a socially monitored alarm, that it is in working order and the Older Person is wearing their pendant. If smoke alarms have been fitted, they are also checked to ensure they are in working order. CANCER EXERCISE CLASS - A Cancer Exercise Class will start in Clontubrid in early October. This class is specifically designed for people who have suffered any type of cancer and are recovering or recovered. It recognises the value of exercise in recovery and prevention of cancer. SOCCER- Saturday morning Soccer for Under 10s continues every Saturday at 12.00 in Woodview. Soccer training for Under 11s and Under 12s has resumed and will be held at 6 pm every Thursday evening at Freshford Town Soccer Club at Woodview, Freshford. Registration is €20 per child. New players are very welcome. Girls soccer for under 13s and under 17s continues also on a weekly basis.
