Clara - Clara defence held solid

GAA - Clara Seniors bounce back with a great win over Ballyhale Shamrocks in Thomastown last Friday evening. Clara started the game well and were 1-3 to 1 point up within 10 minutes of the start. The scores coming from David Langton a pointed free from his own 65, Jack Langton and Keith Hogan with another free. Ciarán Prendergast finished the ball to the back of the net for Claras goal. The goal came from a high ball in from Conor Phelan that was looking to be going wide but Ciarán got his hurl up high to redirect it to the net. Ballyhale got their 2nd score shortly after this a pointed free, their first score was a point from play. Austin Murphy canceled that score out with a point of his own. Ballyhale got another point before Liam Ryan got his first score of the match. Ballyhale got the next two points of the game one from play, one from a free. With 10 minutes remaining in the first half Clara pushed on again getting another three points, Shane Prendergast with the first and Liam Ryan with the other two points. Ballyhale finished the scoring in the first half with another point. This left the half time score Clara 1-8, Ballyhale Shamrocks 0-6. Clara started the second half strong and within the first 1 minute got a free which Keith Hogan put over the bar. Ballyhale got two more points before Liam Ryan got another good point after some hard work by the Clara forwards. Ballyhale came right back into the game when they got a scrambled goal to bring them back to within two points of Clara. Keith Hogan pointed a free to extend the lead to three points before Ballyhale pointed a free. Micheal Fennelly for Ballyhale had to be helped off the field after he twisted his ankle but this didn’t hold Ballyhale back. Austin Murphy pointed for Clara and Ballyhale got another two points to bring them within one of Clara. With normal time up Ballyhale kept pushing for that equalising score but the Clara defence held solid and with five minutes of extra time up the referee finally blew the whistle. The final score Clara 1-12 Ballyhale Shamrocks 1-11. WORKS TO CLARA GAA CLUB - Expressions of interest are invited from suitably qualified main contractors who wish to be included on the approved list of tenderers for the Phase 01 works to Clara GAA Club. UNDERAGE TRAINING - Training takes place for underage teams (U6 to U12) for both Hurling and Camogie on Monday evenings from 7 to 8.15. New players are always welcome at any age level. G4M+O Training is on Friday nights from 8 to 9.30. New members are always welcome from both inside and outside of Clara Parish. Gaelic for girls Is on every Thursday from 7 to 8 in Clara GAA Grounds. This is for 8 to 13 year olds. It is a fun introduction to Ladies Football for the underage setup.
