FIRST COMMUNION - Congratulations to the children from second class in Scoil Bhride, Lisdowney, who celebrated their First Communion last Saturday at 11 am in Lisdowney Church - Matthew Banville, Daniel Butler, Daragh Burns, Ava Dooley, Laureve Doran, Lauryn Foley, Sofia Gallagher, Andrew McEvoy and James McEvoy.

SYMPATHIES - Sympathies are expressed to the family of May Murphy, Ballyconra, who passed away at the weekend. Mrs Murphy was laid to rest on Monday afternoon in Aharney cemetery after Requiem Mass in Lisdowney Church. Sympathies are also expressed to Joe Murphy, Parksgrove, on the recent death of his brother, Seamus.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK - Mass of the Anointing of the Sick will take place on Friday (22nd May 2013) at 7.30 pm.

AFTERNOON CLUB - The Afternoon Club trip to Dublin Zoo will take place on Thursday, 30th May 2013. The bus will leave Ballyragget at 9.15 am, Lisdowney at 9.30 am and Gathabawn at 10 am. The group will stop for refreshments in the Poitin Stil on the way and for an evening meal on the way home. €40 all included. COUNTY MINOR HURLING - Congrats to Lisdowney’s Michael Kenny, Grange, who had a fantastic game in full forward with the Kilkenny Minor Hurling Team which beat Kildare 7-16 to 1-09 in Newbridge on Saturday.

JUNIOR HURLING - Well done to the Lisdowney Junior Hurling Team who had a comprehensive win over Cloneen in the Championship on Sunday afternoon. They won on a score-line of 3-25 to 2-10. They played Slieverue in the All County League last night, Tuesday (results not available at time of going to print). They will also play O’Loughin Gaels on Friday night in the All County League. The Junior A Team will play the Emeralds of Urlingford on Saturday.

UNDER 14 HURLING LEAGUE - In the Duggan Steel U14 Roinn B Hurling League, Lisdowney travelled to Urlingford to play the Emeralds on Monday, 13th May 2013. Lisdowney were very unlucky to lose on a score line of 5-06 to 3-09 in what was a very entertaining game. The team line out as: 1:Aidan Tallis, 2:Jack McGree, 3:Conor Tallis, 4:Eoin Delaney, 5:Mark Fitzpatrick, 6:James Phelan, 7:Garry O’Sullivan, 8:David O’Carroll, 9:Ben Tallis, 10:Marty McEvoy, 11:Niall Brennan, 12:Luke Campion, 13:Shane Grace, 14:Cathal Jordan, 15:Rory Kenny. Subs 16: Lee McCann, 17: Hugh Murphy, 18:Stevie Dunne, 19:Eoin Kenny, 20;Eddie Cahill. All the subs came on during the match.

UNDER 10 HURLING - The Lisdowney Under 10 Hurling Team had a good win over Thomastown last Wednesday night in Lisdowney.

UNDER 8s CAMOGIE BLITZ - A Girls Under 8s Go Games blitz was held last Sunday, (19th May 2013) in Lisdowney. Lisdowney welcomed Freshford and Bennettsbridge to the club.

PARISH SEVENS - The annual Lisdowney Parish Sevens Competition takes place this Saturday at the GAA pitch.

LISDOWNEY CAMOGIE RECYCLING DRIVE - Lisdowney Camogie Club is holding a Clothing Recycling Drive this Saturday, 25th May 2013, between 3.30 pm and 4.45 pm at the GAA Club. They are seeking donations of clean, unwanted clothes, bedlinen, towels and textiles, including shoes, bags, belts and soft toys. Mobile phones are accepted along with books (but not school books, magazines or diaries). Household bric-a-brac will not be accepted. All support will be greatly appreciated by the club.

PILTOWN DRAW - The Hurlers Co-Op Draw (Piltown Tickets) are now on sale. Tickets are €50 and can be bought from any Lisdowney GAA Club committee member. The Kilkenny County Board is also extending the Hurlers Co-Op Draw online sales. In future, a person buying a Co-Op Draw ticket on the county website can designate the club they wish to support. By doing so, the nominated club will receive the same percentage as a normal sale by the club. The Hurlers Co-Op draw is an important source of revenue for the club and Lisdowney GAA Club is encouraging all members to buy a ticket.

UNDERAGE HURLING - Hurling for boys and girls from Under 6 up to Under 12 in Lisdowney GAA Club will continue every Saturday morning from 10 am to 11 am. All are welcome. Children must wear helmets and shin guards.

LISDOWNEY GAA & CAMOGIE CLUB LOTTO - The numbers drawn in the Lisdowney GAA and Camogie Club Lotto on Monday, 13th May 2013, were 9, 17, 19 and 27. There was no winner. Match three winner was Ger Butler. Next week’s jackpot is €5,100. The draw will be held on Monday, 27th May 2013, in Downey’s Bar, Lisdowney.

NEW MONTESSORI SCHOOL FOR LISDOWNEY - Helen Coogan has opened a new Montessori school in Lisdowney Resource Centre, which operates each weekday from 9 am to 12 noon. FLORA WOMEN’S MINI MARATHON FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS- Many ladies from the parish have signed up for the mini marathon in aid of the local schools. All support will be greatly appreciated.

LAST ROSE OF SUMMER - On Saturday, 22nd June 2013 at 8 pm in Jenkinstown Park, Kilkenny, Anthony Kearns will perform, along with his usual repertoire, some Thomas Moore melodies such as The Minstrel Boy, Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms and, of course, The Last Rose of Summer, which was composed in Jenkinstown and first published in 1813. Some local talent will be showcased on the evening also. The concert will be in the original walled garden area, within Jenkinstown Woods. Parking will be in the field below the venue.
