Johnstown - Great concert in store by young, local musicians

Concert - Margaret Maher School of Music presents a variety concert featuring local young musicians in St Kieran’s Hall, Johnstown on Friday next May 24th starting at 8pm sharp. All proceeds are in aid of Laura Lymes Treatment Fund for the treatment of a local Thurles girl Laura Cleary who is infected with Lyme disease. Admission Adults€10, children/students €5, family concessions.

Tidy Towns - the preperation for this years tidy towns competition is now in full progress with meetings every Tuesday evening on the Square at 7.30pm. Different parts of the village and surrounds are chosen each evening for a clean up. All help given will be greatly appreciated. Come out and help to make your area a clean ,tidy place.

Tractor Run - There was a great turn out for last Sundays Monster Tractor Run. The sum of €4,500 was raised in aid of Enable Ireland. ONeill Centre, Kilkenny. A big “thank you” who all who helped to make it such a successful day!

Croagh Patrick - some “hardy” walkers from Johnstown will join the Enable Ireland walk to the top of Croagh Patrick, Co. Mayo on Saturday net May 25th. This is the 5th annual walk and is usually joined by some personalities from around the county.

First Communion Day - Last Sunday was the First Holy Communion for five children in St. Michael’s Church, Crosspatrick. The communicants were Cathal Phelan, Brendan McEvoy, Stephen McEvoy, Oisin Berry and Charmaine Tracy. Congrats to the children, their parents and their teachers. Celebrant of the Mass was Fr Maher and the local choir and musicians provided wonderful singing and music.

Active Retirement Association - Johnsown Active Retirement have planned a day trip for Thursday July 4th. The trip will visit Lullymore Heretage and Discovery Park and Bog Train, Straffan Butterfly Farm and an evening meal in the Silken Thomas in Kildare. Names please to Peggy Sharkey (0568838507) before June 10th as numbers are needed for booking purposes. More details later.. You dont need to be an active retired member to come on this trip. Its open to everyone and all will be very welcome.

Community Tennis - CM Community Tennis will hold their AGM on this Wednesday May 22nd in Colaiste Mhuire at 8pm. All interested in playing tennis are welcome.

Whist Drive - The first of the summer whist drives was held last Friday night in St Mary’s Hall. There was aexcellent attendance. The winners top score..Margaret Rochford, other winners... Emma Caldbeck, Maria McCarthy, Sheila McGree, Sister Miriam, Flor Carter, Lorna Allen, Kitty Butler, Mary Orr, Michael Muldowney, Joan Moloughney, Annie Walshe, Richard Caldbeck, Alison Caldbeck. Raffle winners were... Flor Carter, Mary Doheny, John McGinley, Joan Loughman, Particia Delaney, Margaret Neile. Next whist drive is on Friday June 14th at 8.30pm.
