COURSING CLUB- Freshford Coursing Club are running a five month Silver Circle as a fund raiser. The draw will run for five months at €2.50 per month or €10 for all if paid up front. The monthly draw ill take place in the local pubs with the first two draws in McGraths on the 15th June (the first draw was to take place last weekend but was postponed). BENEFIT NIGHT - Prague House Freshford held their Benefit Night of Greyhound Racing at James Park Kilkenny on Friday evening last the 17th May . This night always proves to be very enjoyable night and did again this year. There were many valuable prizes for patrons of tickets purchased beforehand (full report next week ) Thankjs to all those who supported the event all who bought tickets or donated in any way and all those who helped make the night such a success. Last Rose of Summer - The 200th anniversary concert will be held on Saturday June 22nd 2013 at 8 pm in Jenkinstown Park, Kilkenny, Anthony Kearns will perform, along with his usual repertoire, some Thomas Moore melodies such as The Minstrel Boy, Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms and of course The Last Rose of Summer, which was composed in Jenkinstown and first published in 1813. Some local talent will be showcased on the evening also. The concert will be in the original walled garden area, within Jenkinstown Woods. Parking will be in the field below the venue. SOCCER NEWS - Freshford Town Junior side have finished off their league campaign with a draw away to Evergreen C. It was a great comeback from 4-2 down with just ten minutes to go from the team who were forced to play without several of their regular players They await the outcome of other games to see where they will finish in the table. They take on the same team again in the quarter fnal of the Divisional Cup competition .
Freshford Youths meanwhile progressed to the Youths Cup semi final with a great win over Lions of Durrow at home recently on a 2-1 scoreline having been 1-0 down late in the game.
The U16’s were away to Dean Celtic on Sunday evening in the second round of the Lonergan cup. The boys went out in the hardest way , on penalties. The final score was 3 - 0 , but the lads showed great heart in spite of the disapointment. St. Lachtain’s N. S. News - There is a great sense of achievement in the local National School in Freshford after being awarded two prestigious awards in the last few weeks. Firstly, after over a year of planning and hard work by all in the school community, they have been awarded their first Green Flag by An Taisce. This will be presented to the school at the end of the month.
Secondly, they have just been informed by Discover Primary Science and Maths that they have achieved their ‘Award of Science & Maths Excellence 2013’. This involved a year of hands-on science experiments, attending science and engineering shows, visiting engineers, Greenwave Project and much more. A huge well done to all.
Congratulations to Sam Dermody in Rang 6, one of the two national winners in a competition to create two maths characters. Sam’s cartoon character ‘Milly Meter’ has been chosen to feature in ‘Scope’, the Irish Independent’s monthly maths supplement for primary schools. A career as a cartoonist beckons!

Mrs May Murphy-The death occurred last weekend at Prague House of Mrs. May Murphy late of Lisdowney and a resident of Prague House in recent times. The deceased and her family were widely known in Lisodwney Freshford and surrounding areas. She was predeceased a couple of years previously by her husband. Her remains were removed from Prague House on Monday last to Lisdowney Church for Requiem Mass followed by Burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery. Deepest Sympathy is extended to her family on their loss..
SPIN THE WHEEL-There was no Spin the Wheel in Kavanaghs for past two weeks. Tthe previous week was Nicky Orr, Johnstown who won himself €50. Second prize went to Martin Power, Garnamanagh. The Jackpot now stands at €450. The draw will resume next week and takes place each Saturday night as part of fund raising for St.Lachtains GAA Club.

SUMMER CAMPS - Oasis Centre are holding “All the Creative Things you need to do before You’re 7” Cap for children between the ages of 4 and6 years from the 1st to 5th July which coincides with Cul Camp. This will be stuffed with creative projects.craft, construction work and art. Also between the 8th and 12th July the Centre will be holding a Cooking Camp for children between the ages of 8 and 15 years. They will be using seasonal fresh ingredients and highlighting the flavours and benefits of a wide range of healthy foods. They are also considering holding a Cooking Course for adults in the evenings during the summer. The emphasis and challenge would be to prepare a healthy meal for a family of four children and two adults under €10. If you are interested please let the Committee know.
