Pres girls win A title

RECENTLY, the seven aside Leinster A Camogie blitz took place in Presentation Secondary School Kilkenny. Very few schools compete in the A section as it is of a very high standard and this year proved no different. Each team had to play each other in a round robin series with the top two teams going on to contest the final.

After an exciting competition Presentation Kilkenny and Loreto Kilkenny emerged as the finalists and went on to challenge for the cup. This turned out to be a thrilling game with both teams putting in a sterling performance. The first half was an exciting encounter with the two teams evenly matched. Mary O’Connell from Presentation and Jenny Clifford from Loreto were causing most of the problems for their opposing defences. At the interval there was little between the teams with the Presentation leading by two points.

The second half started at a very high intensity with both teams exchanging goals within minutes of the throw in. Midway through the second half Presentation took control of the game with every player stepping up to the challenge in what was a complete team performance. Presentations goal scoring ability proved too much for the Loreto girls as the final score read 5-10 to 3-5. For the Presentation girls Roisin Walsh had a great game in goal making some great saves. Ailish Butler and Rachel Phelan worked tirelessly in defence, while Michaela Keneally and Mary O’Connell were a huge threat in attack scoring 4 goals between them. Other great performances came from Ciara Farrell and Aishling Nolan. On the Presentations’ path to the final they defeated Presentation B team, Loreto B team and Birr, Co Offaly.

Presentaion B team gave a good account of themselves defeating Loreto B and Birr but unfortunately lost out to Pres A and Loreto A.

A delighted captain Ciara Farrell lifted the Cup for the Presentation girls who now go on to represent Leinster in the all Ireland finals.
