Kilkenny Youthreach and the Kilkenny Adult Guidance Service, both part of County Kilkenny VEC’s Adult Education Service, hosted a careers day at Youthreach as part of Youthreach’s Easter educational programme.

Youthreach students heard speakers from a variety of careers including the media, IT, army, social care, Statestreet, hairdressing, metal fabrication and entrepreneurship.

The speakers gave insight to what it is like to work in their chosen fields and explained training and education required as well as how their own careers have developed. Speakers also addressed the impact of the current economic climate in their work and returning to education as a mature student.

The participants enjoyed hearing real-life experiences which are beneficial to them as they prepare for further education and in making their career decisions. The staff and students are grateful to the speakers for giving up their time to participate in the event, which was the first time such an event took place at Youthreach.

Youthreach is a second-chance education and training programme for early school leavers (aged 15-20) to enable them to improve their skills and gain a qualification. Participants have the opportunity to do Leaving Certificate, Junior Certificate and FETAC certification. (Further information is available on 056 7723550.)

The Adult Guidance service offers educational and career guidance to adults interested in returning to education and exploring career options. (Further information is available on 056 7764448.)
