MINORS - Last Tuesday evening Lisdowney minor team togged out against Callan in Lisdowney. The first ten minutes saw a fairly even match but then Callan slotted in two quick goals to put them ahead by 7 points, and Lisdowney played catch up for the rest of the match. For the middle third of the second half they did look like they could pull back but only managed to narrow the gap to 3 points before Callan pulled away again. Full time score was 1:11 to 3:12 in favour of Callan. For full match report check the website www.lisdowney.kilkenny.gaa.ie

UNDER 16s - This long awaited and anticipated league match took place at the unusual time of 12.30 last Saturday in Freshford. From start to finish this was a disappointing match with both sides performing under par. Lisdowney started with a series of wide balls and 8 minutes had passed before either team scored. The half time score was 1:5 to Freshford with all 4 Lisdowney points coming from Brian Kavanagh points and a goal from Jack Dunphy. The second half saw Brian Kavanagh score another three frees for Lisdowney and their only point from play was by Dean McCann while Freshford had another goal and two points from play and two Darren Brennan frees. The final score was 2:9 to 1:9 to Freshford. For full match report check the website www.lisdowney.kilkenny.gaa.ie

JUNIOR HURLING - It wasn’t Lisdowney’s week, and this match against Windgap was the final straw for the week. It was a poor performance from Lisdowney and this coupled with many dubious incidences left the players and spectators frustrated. Lisdowney started well and held their lead for the first half finishing 0:7 to 0:5. The second half was just a Free Feist with Windgap converting just one of their 5 frees in the first 10 minutes. Lisdowney were still ahead by two points at this time but when Lisdowney were awarded a free from the 21 yard line after Eddie Hickey was floored just yards form the square en route to goal, tensions were running high.

Just minutes later W-indgap were then awarded a penalty which they converted and the sides levelled. From here on the play was constantly interupted and the standard of hurling from both sides was poor. All Lisdowney’s scores of the half came from frees while Windgap managed four points from play on top of their goal and two points from frees. Full time score was a draw on 1:11 to Windgap and 0:14 for Lisdowney Referee was Pat Hayes. For full match report check the website www.lisdowney.kilkenny.gaa.ie
