ALL IRELAND - There is great expectation that the Danesfort trio will add to their all-Ireland medal tally. Paul Murphy, and brothers Richie and Paddy Hogan will be travelling to Croke Park, this Sunday, with the rest of the Kilkenny Senior hurling panel, in the hope of overpowering the Leinster Champions, Galway, in the 2012 all-Ireland final replay. The sides drew in the final on a score Kilkenny 0-19 to Galway 2-13 on Sunday September 9. Best of luck boy’s, the whole parish are behind you.
SOCCER - Fort Rangers had a great weekend on the field of play. With no schoolboy teams in action, it was the Youths (under 19) team that began the proceedings. They travelled to Durrow on Saturday and beat the Lions 6-2 in the Shield. An Emmet Nugent hat trick, plus one a piece from James Lenehan, Daragh Hennessy and Evans Wallace gave the boys, managed by Jack Fitzpatrick and Jim Nugent the perfect start to the season. Team: John Rice, Lee Dunne, Ger Dunne, Seamus McGrath, Patrick Tynan, Evans Wallace, James Lenehan, Colm Phelan, Dion Fitzpatrick, Emmet Nugent, Daragh Hennessy. Subs:Robbie Malone, Jason Doherty.
Then on Sunday, the Junior team travelled to Walkinstown in Dublin for a clash with Greenhills/Greenpark F.C. in the Leinster Junior Cup. This was a close, hard fought, game which flowed from end to end.. Fort took the lead on 25 minutes with a brilliantly worked goal. Jim Nugent chipped a free kick over the dub’s wall and Eddie Nugent ran on and supplied a great finish. Fort played well in the first half and could have had another goal or two by half time. The second half began with the local team on top and Fort relied on some resolute defending and some great goalkeeping from David Buggy to keep them at bay. With 20 minutes to go, a brilliant individual effort resulted in the equaliser, and fort looked in trouble. However, nobody told Eddie Nugent and 5 minutes after the leveller, he went on a great run from his own half, and set up his brother Emmet who coolly finished putting Fort back in front. They held out well to the end with great defending as a team and truly great goalkeeping from Buggy. Team: David Buggy, Stephen McKenna, John Bambrick, Seamus McGrath, Jim Nugent, Evans Wallace, John Cahill, Edward Nugent, Tony Moran, Kenny Morris, Emmet Nugent. Subs(used) Dion Fitzpatrick, Stephen Murphy. (unused) Daragh Hennessy, Lee Dunne.
