JUNIOR HURLING - The Lisdowney Junior Hurling Team lined out against Kilmacow in Gowran last Sunday in the first round of the championship in a thrilling, close match. Both sides showed signs of the jitters and were fairly evenly matched. It was even pegging for the first half and 0.6 a piece at half time. Lisdowney moved ahead early in the second half but Kilmacow came back with a goal after about eight minutes and it was point for point then for 15 minutes before Lisdowney managed to creep ahead again and came out on top by three points at the full time whistle. Final score 0:16 to 1:10 for Lisdowney. Full match report available on

Team: Niall Grogan, Niall O’Hara, Martin Phelan, Padraig Kenny, Ray Fitzpatrick, Pat O’Carroll, Peter Bergin (0:1), Vinny Fitzpatrick, Laurence O’Carroll (0:1), Ciaran Mackey, Rory Hickey (0:3 and 0:8 Frees), Sean Phelan (0:1) , Kevin Sweeney (0:1), Eddie Hickey(0:1) and Paddy Bowden.

UNDER 12 HURLING AT CONAHY TOURNAMENT - Lisdowney team made it through to the semi-finals of this prestigious tournament and met Bennettsbridge. Lisdowney had several scoring chances in the first half, but were unfortunate in their accuracy and by half time were lagging by four goals to three points. They put a lot more pressure on in the second half and managed to keep the opposition down to a single point, but despite having most possession they just could not seem to make up the difference and so finished up with a place in the shield final on a scoreline of 4:1 to 1:3.

In the final they faced Callan and got off to a good start in this match. Aidan Tallis opened the scoring but Callan levelled from a 65 and then Lisdowney settled nicely and clocked up a point from David O’Carroll and goals from Luke Campion and Stevie Dunne before Callan got their second point. Lisdowney scored two more lovely goals in this half, Aidan Tallis lobbed a high ball in over the keeper’s head and Stevie Dunne read the play well and when a free by David O’Carroll was blocked by the keeper he was there to blast it home. Half time score 4:2 to 0:2. Lisdowney played well in the second half with Luke Campion, Oisin Quirke and Gary O’Sullivan adding points to the scoreboard and Dean Brophy converting a low ball in from Gary to a goal. Final score 5:7 to 0:2 for Lisdowney. Well done lads.
