Stoneyford: The late Maura Roche

Death Notice - The death occurred at her home in Dunarás Lawcus, Stoneyford early on Tuesday morning of Maura Roche (nee Kelly). She was predeceased by her husband Dick just 23 months ago. Maura was a very outgoing person and was well liked in the community and involved in many local organisations.

Death Notice - The death occurred at her home in Dunarás Lawcus, Stoneyford early on Tuesday morning of Maura Roche (nee Kelly). She was predeceased by her husband Dick just 23 months ago. Maura was a very outgoing person and was well liked in the community and involved in many local organisations.

She was a member of the local choir and Church committee , a past member of Stoneyford Development Association and The Ladies Club and more recently was a member of the Active Retirement Group. She was well known in Camogie Circles as along with her husband Dick managed and trained Carrickshock Camogie Club in the 1970’s. Maura was in ill health for the last twelve months of her life but bore her illness with great courage. Her remains were removed from her home in Lawcus to St. Brendan,s Church and Requiem Mass was celebrated on Thursday morning by Fr. Liam Cassin P.P Aghaviller, Fr. Jim Walsh, Ballagh, retired, Fr.Willie Purcell Kilkenny and Fr Peter Hoyne Newmarket. Mons. Jim Cassin, Fr.Peter Keogh and Fr.Roderick Whearty were also in attendance. The Beautiful Church Music was provided by Tony Power with Soloist Mala Raggett. Maura was interred in the adjoining graveyard alongside her beloved husband Dick.

She is survived by Her Sons, Oliver, Lawcus and Declan, San Diego. Her daughters in law, Catherina and Michelle. Grandchildren, Aaron, Loren and Caitlin, Lawcus and Sheridan and Kian, San Diego. Her Brothers, Liam, Newpark, Noel, Barrettstown. Her sisters Birdie Hayes, Dean Cavanagh Pl., Eileen Cuddihy, Newmarket, Agnes Hickey, Riverside Drive and Sheila Raggett, Lawcus.. Brothers-in-law, Sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Christmas Fair - The Christmas Fair held by the Development Association in Stoneyford Community Centre on Sunday was a great success. There were several assorted craft stalls, a toy stall, a book stall, the ever popular Wheel of Fortune among many others. the children of “Stagedoor “ sang Christmas Carols at the entrance tothe hall to add to the festive occasion. The committee would like to thank all who helped and supported in any way to make the day such a success. The addition of a certain Mr. Santa Claus added to the occasion.

Parish Pastoral Council - A meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council will be held in the Parish House, Hugginstown on Wednesday December 5 at 8pm. (Cancelled last week)

St. Vincent de Paul Society - A Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society has been established in the parish recently to assist and support those in need in our community. ‘KCLR ‘s Spirit of Christmas Carol Concert - This year, ignite the real Spirit of Christmas and, re-light hope!!! KCLR’s ‘Soul Agenda’ presenters Vicki Sandall and Fr Dan Carroll, present the first “Spirit of Christmas Carol Concert” in aid of the Carlow Kilkenny Homecare Team. With a star studded line up including, Pat Byrne, Brian Cody, Gerry Moran and Brendan Corcoran. Joining them are Kilkenny’s St Patrick’s Brass and Reed Band; an 80 strong choir comprising of choirs from across Carlow and Kilkenny, St John of God’s School Choir.
