Clara - All-Ireland champions

Hurling - History was made last Sunday in Croke Park when Clara defeated St Gabriels of London. The weather was damp and dreary but spirits were on fire. From start to finish Clara led the game and were winning the ball in every position. Clara opened the scoring within the first minute and never looked back and led the game 0-11 to 0-4 at half time.

Even with this lead Clara didn’t relax and scored a scrambled goal and 2 points before St Gabriels got their first score of the second half. All the way through the match the Clara defence held strong making some brillant blocks and hooks helping Kevin Nolan to keep St Gabriels goaless. As in every match the work engine of Jack Langton and Lester Ryan in midfield proved to be too much for St Gabriels. As for the Clara forwards St Gabriels couldn’t deal with the movement, passing and the pace of their game. The final score in this historic game was Clara 1-16 St Gabriels 0-11. Well done to James Nolan who was awarded Man of the Match.
