Ballyhale - Well done young soccer stars

Southend - U-13 soccer: The boys were at home to the Lions of Durrow in the League last Saturday. The teams remained deadlocked at half time with both defences on top although Southend were unlucky not to score when a Lions defender hooked the ball away to safety off their goal line. The boys got off to a great start after only two minutes of the second half when a well worked move through midfield ended with an Eoin Cody pass across the box which was met by John Shorthall to slide home for the lead goal. The lead lasted only eight minutes when Lions broke through to equalise. The game flowed from one end to the other but neither team could find a winner and the game ended all square at 1-1. Great credit must go to both teams who served up a fiercely competitive game on a poor pitch surface and there was some lovely football displayed.
