Kilmacow Schoolboys’ Soccer - UNDER 11 Kilmacow 0 Villa 3
If there was ever an unjust scoreline this was definitely one of them. Our lads played really well in this match and had as much if not more of the play than our visitors. However goals win matches and Villa scored them. Two of the goals came in the last couple of minutes to give the scoreline that unfair look. Fergal’s boys certainly gave as good as they got right from the start. Kieran Dowling was always sound in goal, Tom Butler drove the team forward by example ably assisted by Conor Walsh, Ronán Leech, Fionn Blanche and the rest of the lads. It is amazing that the team finished the match scoreless as they could easily have scored as many goals as Villa. It was not to be but the performance was really good so they can look forward to the rest of the season with confidence. KILMACOW: Kieran Dowling; Conor Walsh, Cian Vereker, Tom Butler, Stephen Moore, Ronán Leech, Billy Phelan, Anthony Dunphy, Fionn Blanche, Jack Murphy, Fergal Suffin, Josh Fenton, Nick Kleijn, Liam Lacey.
The Club would also like to acknowledge the great support it received for its recent table quiz. It was wonderful to see such a great turnout particularly on such a miserable night. We thank everyone who made up the teams - players, parents of our schoolboys’ players, club members, friends and all the regular quiz-goers. We also thank all who donated prizes for the raffle. It was quite simply one of the great evenings made possible by so many. We would like to ask all our supporters to remember that the next quiz on Monday 4th March will be for another great club in the parish, the Camogie Club.
Community Creating Jobs Meeting in Kilmacow - The inaugural meeting for Communities Creating Jobs (CCJ) - Kilmacow was held in the Community Centre on Thursday last, 7th Feb. CCJ is a volunteer organisation with the intent to work with communities across Ireland on job creation in their respective local areas. Further information can be found on the national website: http://www.ccjireland.com
The discussion was led by Rory Williams and Adrian O’Keeffe. The purpose of this first meeting was to establish if there was a willingness to form such a group in the Kilmacow area. The meeting agreed that there was a need and a willingness by individuals to lend their skill-sets to assist in this endeavour.
Senan Cooke spoke about his experiences in the national CCJ organisation and of the Dunhill Enterprise Project which has been in existence for a number of years and is a success story for rural business creation.
Adrian O’Keeffe suggested a collaborative effort that would be reminiscent of the co-operative movements that achieved so much for community development and job creation in Ireland from 1889 onwards.
The meeting decided to update the local services directory which had been produced in 2010. This could be enhanced by using modern communications like a website and Facebook. Other possibilities discussed by the meeting included identifying community assets within Kilmacow and liaising with others who might have ideas which could benefit the local community. A follow up meeting is to be held in couple of week’s time.
