Substance Awareness Presentation - The HSE and GAA have joined forces to play an active role in preventing the abuse of alcohol and drugs by young teenagers and adults in this country. This substance abuse has reached crisis point and is evident in all areas of our daily lives. The Alcohol & Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) Programme aims to reduce and prevent the harm being caused by alcohol and drugs by developing a structure of people throughout the country with specific roles at community, club, county and provincial levels.

A Substance Awareness Presentation will be held in Danesfort Community Centre on Saturday, May 4 at 7pm. It will be presented by John Leahy of the HSE and is highly recommended for boys and girls aged 14 to 21 years plus, for parents/guardians of all age groups, for teachers, mentors, coaches and club officials. Mentors of players aged 14 years and over must ensure that parents and teenagers are informed of the importance of attending this presentation.

LOTTO - Danesfort GAA / Parish Development Lotto Results Week 26. Draw took place in Delaney’s, Kells with the jackpot standing at €800. Numbers drawn 17, 26 and 32. There was no jackpot winner and five consolation prizes of €30 - Ciara & Mark Harris, Paul Cunningham, Frank Kavanagh c/o Delaney’s Bar Patrick Street, Angela Ireland, Agnes White. Two promoters prizes of €20 to Maurice Woodcock and Felix Sheridan.

Results Week 27: Draw was held on Monday, April 15 in Sheridan’s Ennisnag, Jackpot €900.

Numbers Drawn: 3, 5, 20. There was no winner. Five consolation prizes of €30 - Patrick O’Neill Jnr, Chris Cullen, Roseanne Brophy, Joe Doyle and Gerry O’Brien. Two promoter’s prizes of €20: Millie Murphy, Dwane Martin.

PARENT AND TODDLER - Danesfort Parent and Toddler group meet on Monday mornings from 10.30-12.30pm at Danesfort Community Centre. Toddlers enjoy activities such as action songs, arts and crafts, and weather permitting toddler walks.

Also coming up in May little fingers can enjoy gardening with sunflower seeds and more. Tea, coffee and light healthy snacks available for all .

SOCCER - Fort Rangers U-11’s defeated Highview Athletic 2-1 in the 1st round of cup on Friday evening last thanks to goals by the ever improving Shaun O’Keefe and a superb solo effort by Andy Hickey. Panel: Conor Farrell,Eoin Delahunty, Andy Hickey, Darragh Walsh, Shaun O’Keefe, Tadhg O’Sullivan, Jack Walton, Daniel O’Grady, Ger Coffey, Kevin Ging and Michael Molloy.

Meanwhile, having Defeated Thomastown United B, 3-2 in the first round, Fort Rangers junior side took on Evergreen C in the second round, last Sunday week at the Kells Road. With a 2-1 victory the locals advanced to the last eight of the McCalmont Cup. The goals came compliment of the Nugent brothers Eddie and Emmet. Fort lined out against Evergreen A in the league last Sunday, in Wallslough, but unfortunately went down to the Kells Road side 3-2. Both Fort goals were netted by Emmet Nugent.

FEILE na nGael - The Danesfort under-14 camogie team progressed to the semi final of the Feile na nGael competition with a hard fought 0-5 to 1-0 victory over Young Irelands of Gowran, on Friday. Best of luck to the girls in the semi-final on Saturday, April 27.

FUN RUN - Church Hill NS running club are shaping up in time for their second 10k race/5k fun run on the Sunday, May 12. They have changed their training location to Danesfort hurling club, their times are the same, Monday and Thursday mornings at 9.45 and Tuesday and Friday evenings at 6.30.  Its still not too late to join in at any level, its €2 which goes to Church Hill NS. The Fun Run itself will start at 12 noon and will be finished around 2.30pm. There will be some traffic disruption along the route but the road will remain open. AGEING - Ageing with Confidence: This consists of 2 hour sessions over 8 weeks in Danesfort community Centre each Wednesday at 11am. Regular members meet at 10am for exercise (weather permitting). Refreshments 10.30am. Admission €5. Contact: 086 1666547 or 087 6987891.

GAA - Congratulations to Paul Murphy and Richie Hogan who played a huge part in Kilkenny’s victory over Galway in the Allianz National Hurling League semi-final in Thurles last Sunday. Richie had a superb game and scored five excellent points from play. Kilkenny will now face Tipperary in the final in Nowlan Park on May 5. Danesfort’s Conor O’Neill has been called up to the Kilkenny U-16 hurling development squad. Danesfort GAA club are looking for a small Tractor, if you can help contact Pascal at 086 8399608.

BINGO - Wednesday in Danesfort Community Centre at 8.30pm. For newcomers, there is plenty of car parking available and a bus service operates each week from Kilkenny City. Contact 086 8825821.

GOLF - Danesfort Golf Society held there first outing in Mount Wolsley Golf Club. An enjoyable day was had by members and guests. Captain Joe Tierney presented prizes to the following 1 Patrick Cunningham, 2 Marie Gorey, 3 Pat Mulrooney, Visitors Prize Joe Lennon, Back 9 Paul Cunningham. Vice Captain for 2013 is Tom Moore.

COLLECTION - Special Olympics Ireland’s annual Collection Day, sponsored by eircom, will take place throughout Ireland on Friday, April 26. Volunteers will be needed in Kilkenny City to look after the collection points there.
