The Dicksboro U14 girls finished off a fantastic season with a great win over Glenmore in the Roinn A County Final in Callan last Saturday evening. Dicksboro started strongly, and within a few minutes were in the lead following a goal from Kate Dempsey. This was added to a few minutes later by a second goal from Jane Cass. The Glenmore girls kept their composure however and succeeded in reducing the lead with some well taken points and a goal. Dicksboro had one more score, a well-taken goal by Aisling Morrissey going in at half time with a 2 point lead, 3-0, to Glenmore’s 1-4. From the start of the second half, Glenmore reapplied the pressure, but the Dicksboro backs dealt with everything that was thrown at them. They gave a great display of hooking, blocking and clearing, from Leah Dunne in goal, through to Orlaith Moore, Issey Carroll, Ella Dowling, Ella Brennan, Tara Clifford and Ciara O’Shea. Time and again the ball was extracted from the danger zone. The midfield pairing of Annie O’Connor and Aobha O’Gorman aided by Caoimhe Dowling in centre forward worked tirelessly keeping a supply of ball into the forwards. Aisling Morrissey scored a point from play and Caoimhe’s accuracy from placed balls extended Dicksboro’s lead. The Dicksboro girl’s heart’s soared with triumph as the sound of the final whistle echoed around the stadium. They had defeated Glenmore on a score line of 3-4 to 1-4. This completes the treble of County Féile, All Ireland Féile and County Championship, a great year and congratulations to the team and mentors who have put in so much effort to make this happen. DIOCESAN SURVEY

The survey can be completed on the tables at the entrance area of the church when you arrive or when you are departing. Alternatively you can take the survey home and return it to the parish centre during the week or to the boxes provided in the church next weekend.

SAFEGUARDING

During the first week of July a safeguarding audit was carried out in our parish by Sr Ena Kennedy, the diocesan safeguarding officer. While Sr Ena was very happy with our progress a number of recommendations were made so that we become fully compliant with church and state regulations/guidelines. A sub group of the parish pastoral council chaired by Tony Joyce and including Jim Ryan, Caroline Cummins (our parish safeguarding representative), Fr’s Jim and Kieran are currently engaged in a process to continually monitor and reviewing our practices to ensure that everything is done to provide a safe environment for children and vulnerable adults in our parish community. Details of Diocesan & Parish Safeguarding policies are available to view in the display units at the entrance to the Church, in the Sacristy and Parish Centre.
