BALLYRAGGET PLAYGROUND - Ballyragget Playground Committee held at very successful meeting last week re their Fun Day on the Green on Sunday May 20th. Lots of activities for the young and not so young are to take place on the day including Tug of War competition, pet show, flower arranging, cake sale, wheel barrow racing, Wheel of Fortune and live music just to name a few. Face painting and a Fancy Dress competition will also be held on the day. There will also be food stalls and a tea/coffee area on the day where you can grab a bite to eat. Anyone interested in helping out or in donating cakes/muffins for cake sale can contact secretary at the number below. Stalls will also be available around the Green on the day for people to hire, to sell their wares including bric a brac, books, bakery or any other item. The cost to hire a stall for the day is €25. If you are interested in hiring a stall please contact Catherine Kelly 085 7403812 before Fri 20th April. Anyone who couldn’t attend meeting but would like to donate their time or who has other fun ideas for the day can contact Catherine also.
BOOK CLUB - The book for next month’s Hogan Stand Book Club is The Borstal Boy by Brendan Behan. The Book Club will meet on Tuesday 1st May 2012 in the Hogan Stand and new members are always welcome.

NATIONAL SPRING CLEAN EVENT - The National Spring Clean will be taking place in April when people all over the country will be helping to clean up our environment of litter. You can participate in this event by organising a clean-up on your estate, street or road. Further details can be had from the Environment Section of Kilkenny County Council. An Taisce or Ballyragget Development Association members. If everyone gets involved a major impact on the litter problem can be made – make a difference.

BORD NA NOG - A First Aid Course specializing in AED (Heart Defibrillation) and GAA specific sport injuries will be held in St Patrick’s Clubhouse on 14th April at 9am – 4pm. The cost of this invaluable course is €50 per person. Everyone is welcome to attend but all mentors and officials are strongly encouraged to participate, places are available on first come first serve basis. CARD NIGHT - The Annual Monster “25” Card Night is been held on Tuesday 17th April in the CYMS Hall, Ballyragget at 8:30pm. Everyone is welcome to join in on what promises to be a great night. We would be delighted in welcoming all volunteers to assist on the night with the catering etc, all help in this area would be greatly appreciated. We would especially like to invite the mothers of our juvenile teams to participate on the night.
TRIP - Our forthcoming trip to Portaferry is fast approaching on 21st April. Any mentors interested in travelling, should urgently contact Lar Mac on 086 8100558 to discuss the details. Training will continue for all juvenile teams this Wednesday, see you all there! Finally, we would like to thank all those who attended training last week, it is so encouraging for the club to see the numbers of young enthusiastic hurlers we have. We look forward to seeing all players and parents at this week’s training, Wednesday at 6pm. All necessary equipment i.e. helmets, hurls etc can be ordered on the evening or preferably you can contact James on 087 1614842. All club gear i.e. hoodies, jersey tops etc can also be ordered through James. We would encourage everybody that requires equipment etc to order through the club as all products will be offered at discounted prices. For all the new members joining the club especially those who do not yet have helmets etc, please come along regardless and meet your mentors and join in the fun. PICTURE PERFECT - Local photographer Pat Farrell has documented the year through photography and has compiled a book to commemorate the year. Same is aimed to be priced at €30 and will contain photographs from the county semi final to the All Ireland Final and the home coming celebrations the book will be made up of action and crowd shots. NAOMH BRID CAMOGIE CLUB - Naomh Brid Camogie Club need volunteers to assist with the training of the under 14, under 12 and under 10 teams. The club currently only have one trainer for this year and unless volunteers volunteer (male or female) the club will be unable to continue. BALLYRAGGET ACTIVE RETIREMENT - The King and I will be on in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre (otherwise known as the Grand Canal Theatre) for six nights in May. Anyone who would like to attend please give their name and ticket money €39 to Maureen O’Shea or Elizabeth Dermody on or before April 23rd as the intention is to go on the trip on Tuesday 22nd May. There are currently nine places left on the bus so it is a case of first come first served.

International Congress - The 50th International Congress will be held in Dublin in the R. D. S. from the 10th – 17th June. The final mass will be celebrated in Croke Park on Sunday 17th June 2012. Please see www.iec.ie for further information. The official “Ossory” day is Tuesday 12th June when it is recommended that people from the dioceses might travel.
