FOOD & CRAFT MARKET - Callan Food & Craft Market will take place in Droicheád Family Resource Centre every Friday beginning from 29 June from 9am to 2pm. Anyone interested in supplying products and having their own stand please call 056 7755519 ext 1. The cost of having a stand is €10 per day and all stand holders must have their own insurance. All are welcome to come along and have a browse or buy some locally produced products.

LEVEL 4 FETAC CLASSES - The Droicheád F.R.C. in partnership with Co. Kilkenny VEC’s Back to Education Initiative (BETI) are currently accepting applications from all early school leavers interested in participating on the following FETAC Level 4 accredited programmes in Callan (1) Horticultural (4M1994) and (2) Office Skills (4M2070). It is expected that both programmes will run in the Droicheád FRC from (:30am to 2:00pm for days per week over the September 2012 to June 2013 period. FREE places are available on this part-time programme to applicants with Junior Certificate standard of education. Priority for places will be given to those in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance and/or Job Seekers Benefit.

FAMILY FUN DAY - Preparations are continuing for the annual Ballykeeffe Family Fun Day being held on 24 June. Once again this exceptional venue will be a hive of activity, having the return of the Mountain Rescue Team, and also Julie McCormick returns with her engaging puppet show. Moonshine Balloon Magic is an amazing show that is part clown and part magician and produces elaborate balloon sculptures.   There will also be the Arts and Crafts Table, Irish Dancing, Lively entertainment, Bouncy Castles, Tug of War, Meet Pet Calves and Lambs and various other farm animals. You can enjoy the Barbeque, and have a look at the new Canopy which is the committees pride and joy. There will also be a baking competition with First and Second prizes. Admission: €3 per adult. Children FREE. SUNDAY SERVICE CANCELLED - Due to the annual car rally there will not be a Sunday Service in St. Aidan’s Church on 24 June.

SOCCER SISTERS SUMMER CAMP - With the boys in Green flying the flag for Ireland in the Euro’s, remember the summer of football doesn’t end on 1 July. The eFlow FAI Summer soccer Schools start on 2 July and are open to boys and girls from 6-14 of all abilities. Each camp runs for five days, Monday - Friday, from 10:30am to 3pm.

The mainstream camps are designed to cater for all players, regardless of ability. If you’re new to the game, you will learn of all the fundamental skills that a budding footballer needs. If already experienced, the camps will help hone existing talent and introduce new tricks and sessions. Specialised Goalkeeper camps are on offer which focus on honing and developing the specific skill-set that this important position on the pitch required. This year also sees the launch of Girls-only camps where girls can participate in a summer camp with just other girls if they’d prefer. Of course, as always, girls are welcome on ALL of their camps.

Every participant this year will receive brand new and exclusive FAI Umbro kit, a backpack and a football.

This year will also see a new range of coaching sessions, activities, skills and games delivered by a FAI-qualified and Garda-vetted Coaches. Kids on these camps participate in 20 hours of crucial health enhancing physical activity - an essential element to a fit and active lifestyle. FOROIGE TRIP - The Foróige Club met on Tuesday, 12 June to finalise details for their club trip. It was decided by the members to attend this year’s Band on the Strand which is hosted by Mayo District Council of Foróige in conjunction with Lacken Foróige Club, Ballina, Co. Mayo.

This event is taking place on Friday, 13 July and will run from 8pm to 12:30am. This year the main act is none other than Bressie (from the Voice). The host Club are providing large tents where young people and leaders will stay. All that’s required to bring are sleeping bags for what should be an ultra fun night. This is the fifth year that the Band on the Strand has been held but it will be Ballycallan’s first time at this event.

The event was attended by other Kilkenny Foróige Club last year and reports are it was a great success and very enjoyable. As with all events run by Foróige Clubs it will be attended by Foróige Club Members only and fully supervised by Club Leaders including leaders from the Ballycallan Club.

The bus will leave Ballycallan Hall at 1pm on Friday, 13 July. There will be a stop en route and they should arrive at their destination at approximately 6pm. The group envisage being back in Ballycallan around mid afternoon on Saturday, 14 July. Members will ring parents to arrange collection.

The Club is covering the cost of the bus, tickets for the event and the overnight stay which includes breakfast. The Club will also cover the cost of the meal for members en route.

The Club will meet on Tuesday, 10 July at 8:30pm to make final arrangements and they ask that as many members as possible attend. For any members who can’t attend please let the Leaders know if you are definitely going on the trip.

SUMMER CAMP - Droicheád Summer Camp will run for one week beginning Monday, 15 July until Friday, 20 July, 2012. It will be held from 10am until 2pm in Droicheád Childcare, Mill Street, Callan. The camp will cater for children from 4 to 11 years of age. Activities will include music, dance, art and crafts, baking, sport, treasure hunt, water games and a display from Gowran Reptile Zoo. The cost will be €60 per child for the week. To secure a place payment of a deposit is required in advance. Please contact Rosie or Grace on 056 7755519 Ext. 2

WEDDING BELLS - The wedding of Aisling Young and Patrick Mullally. Aisling’s bridesmaid was Margaret Butler and Patrick’s best man was Eamonn Butler. Their son Jamie was pageboy. The wedding took place in St. Brigid’s Church, Ballycallan with celebrant F. Kieran O’Shea, CC. The reception was held in the Ormonde Hotel, Kilkenny. Many years of happiness are wished to you both.
