BARBEqUE AT THE RIVER-This Saturday June 23 will see a barbecue take place at the river park in Goresbridge at 1pm. The event has been organised by the Bridge Boys who are a small group of local teenage lads in association with Martina and Ossory Youth. They have done some renovation work on the picnic tables at the river and will be unveiling a games table on Saturday. They have also done some work raising plants for the village and growing vegetables in the polytunnel at Goresbridge Rural Development. The barbecue is a great opportunity to come along and see what this small group of teenagers are doing for their community and you can even taste some of their vegetables that they have grown.
GREAT CELEBRATION-On Saturday last the people from the Parish had a great opportunity to wish Darren O’ Neill the best of luck at the London Olympics. He was presented with a really fabulous piece of cut glass. There were plenty of dignitaries there also to wish him well, Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan, Chairman of the County Council, Paul Cuddihy, Ann Phelan TD, John McGuiness TD, Paul Kinsella Chairman of Kilkenny County Board, David Fitzgerald, Lord Mayor of Kilkenny, apologies if I have left someone out. The weather held up well and the children had great fun on the bouncy castles, there was teas available, a barbecue and the area was well decorated with bunting and posters and the man himself, Darren O’ Neill looked very fit and posed for photos and did an interview with KCLR who were also broadcasting from the pitch. It was a great celebration for him and his family and from all of us here in Goresbridge we wish him the very best of luck in London, it is a huge achievement to be taking part and a proud time for his family, friends and all of us in the Parish.

It is a fundraiser for the Parent’s Association and we all know how difficult it is to raise funds but the school is certainly such a worthwhile cause because the money benefits our children. HANDBALL NEWS-Last Saturday the Irish 60x30 Nationals were held in venues all around Kilkenny, with all the top players in the country taking part. This is a doubles event and one where players from different counties can team up with each other. The 15 years and under was held in Kilfane and taking part from Goresbridge were JJ English and Sean Carey. Their first match of the day saw them taking on the of Wexford pair Oisín Foley and Thomas Hall. This was a close game which saw the lads battle through and win 31- 27. In the afternoon in the semi final, they would take on Robert Fox (Meath) and Daniel Curry (Wicklow). In this game the lads got off to a great start and never looked back playing some great handball to win 31- 13. In the other half of the draw Daniel Hayes (Tipp) & Ryan Mullen (Tyrone) were coming through their games strong, and they came through to meet the Goresbridge lads in the National Final. The Tipp- Tyrone duo got off to a great start and as hard as our lads tried they could not pull them back. But no excuses on the day they were beaten by the better side, but a great achievement for two club men to take on players from different counties and do so well. Also, a huge well done to Kilfane for hosting the event and to the Ladies who provided teas all day. Well done to all and keep up the good work boys.

The plan states the authority’s policies for land use and development management and promotion. This will affect what type of buildings can be constructed and the use to which land can be put. It affects many facets of daily economic and social life: where you can live, what services are available and where developments with job opportunities are to be sited. A new plan must be made every 6 years; the current plan is from 2008-2014.
