Cycle, shave or dye?

Kells Angels Charity Cycle -The first “Kells Angels Charity Cycle” and Shave Or Dye will take place on Saturday, September 1 in Kells village. The aim of this event is to raise much needed funds to help establish a badly needed Cancer Support Centre in Kilkenny called “Cois Nore”.It is envisaged that the centre will open its doors in Walkin Street in Kilkenny City later this year. From where trained volunteers will provide emotional and practical support for Kilkenny individuals and their families who have been effected by cancer. We are delighted that the local community have come together to assist with running of this event and also the momentum is mounting for the Family Fun Day with the proceeds going to St. Brigids N.S School Childcare Centre and the local Scout Group. The Cycle consist of an 110km Challenge with registration between 8.30am - 9.30am @ €25 30km local Loop registration between 2.15pm-1.15pm ‘@ €257.5km Family Fun Cycle registeration between 1.30pm-2.3pm @ €10. Shave Or Dye in Delaneys Pub on the same night 8.30pm Irish Time. If cycling is not your thing you can still support the cause by coming along to this beautiful village where there will be a raffle for some wonderful prizes.

Wedding Competition - Congratulations to Noel Power, Norelands and Anita Duffy, Callan who took part in “Beat 102’s” Win your Wedding competition . Noel and Anita were runners-up in the Radio Stations competition and despite not taking the top prize they raised 11,925e for Crumlin Children’s Hospital. The couple took part in various fundraising challenges including braving the Tarantullas at Gowran Reptile Village and feeding dead rats to an alligator. Noel and Anita would like to thank all who supported them and donated to their cause. They started out with 285e and nearly reached 12,000 in five days.. Well done!

Athletic Club - Stoneyford Athletic Club is almost one year old. In order to try and improve a club which reflects what our members need, we want you to let us know what we got right or wrong and what you would like us to add, change, improve. Paralympics - Best wishes to Ray O’Dwyer who is competing in his first Paralympics with the Irish team in London.

Stoneyford Active Retirement Group - The monthly meeting will beheld on September 5 at 10.30am. Plans are ahead for the outing to Limerick on September 19 taking in Hunt Museum and Bunratty Folk Park.

Alzheimer Society - Living with Dimentia Family Carer Training: The Society is holding a FREE 5 week course of training for Family Carers in the Ormonde Hotel Kilkenny five evenings from 7pm to 9.30pm. For further details and bookings contact Ruth 056771230. Places are limited.

Kingsriver 25th Anniversary Weekend - Kingsriver Community celebrate twenty five years of existence next weekend with a family fun day on Sunday. A duck race will take place on the River Nore, there will also be kayak racing and all day music, food stalls, kids playground, games attractions etc . All will take place riverside on their 2.5 acre front lawn and is a collaboration between the local Angling Club and Stoneyford Development Association.

Registration - Registration for the coming seasons “Stagedoor’ classes will be held in the Community Hall on Thursday evening from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. All must register and those not intending to return are asked to contact Rose, Sheila or Shauna so as to free up places for the coming season.

Marraige - The Marriage was celebrated at St. Brendan’s Church last Thursday of James Moran son of John and Kathleen Moran, Cherrymount and Natalie Dowling, daughter of Brendan and Sabine Dowling Cedarwood Close, Kilkenny.Given in Marraige by her father, Natalie had as her attendants, her sister Lucie and her friend Miriam Butler. James choose his friend Tommy O’Leary as his Bestman and John Moran (Brother) and Sean Gibbons ( friend) as Groomsmen. The Reception was held in Langton House Hotel, Kilkenny.
