NAOMH BRID CAMOGIE CLUB - UNDER 10. The under 10 team had an enjoyable day at the Lisdowney hosted blitz, on Saturday August 18th. We played three games, which were against Gowran, Lisdowney and Freshford. The team played well in all of the matches and gave a splendid account of themselves. Despite scoring in each game, a victory eluded us, but the ongoing improvement in the team was great to see. These under 10 players are very committed to training and have represented the club with great enthusiasm all year. The squad was – Mary Kate Brennan, Ciara Mc Donald, Nessa Morrissey, Michaela Ryan, Emma Glennon, Catherine Purcell, Miriam Phelan, Kiera Walshe, Ellie Smith, Eimear Kavanagh, Sinead Morrissey, Leanne Ryan, Hannah Coyle- Twomey, Sienna Gunner and Katelyn Cummins.
UNDER 12 - The under 12 team travelled to Gowran on Tuesday August 21st to play the home team, in the St. Canices Kilkenny Credit Union county championship, group 3 ,semi final. Thankfully the evening was fine and the local pitch was well prepared for this important game. Playing with the assistance of a strong breeze in the first half, Gowran got off to a great start and were 1-1 to nil ahead after 3 minutes. The Naomh Brid defence took control after that and despite intense pressure only conceded another point after 7 minutes and a goal two minutes later. Lauren Phelan’s well taken point after 13 minutes raised our spirits and with the defence now on top Naomh Brid only trailed by 2-2 to 0-1 at half time. Unfortunately for us, Gowran scored 1-1 in the opening two minutes of the second half and thereafter our girls faced an impossible task. Despite the absence of Katie Brennan, the younger and smaller Naomh Brid team tried their best and competed well to the finish. A few attacks might have yielded scores, but we just couldn’t find the target and Gowran finished strongly, as the rain came, to win by 5-5 to 0-1. Goalkeeper Thanh Phelan made a welcome return to action after her recent injury and produced some good saves. There were impressive displays from Niamh Morrissey, Emer O’ Doherty, Lauren Phelan, Mary Kate Brennan and Zara Gunner. Team- Thanh Phelan, Niamh Morrissey, Emer O’ Doherty, Chieu Phelan, Lauren Phelan (0-1), Mary Kate Brennan, Kate Maher, Sinead Walshe, Zara Gunner, Sinead Morrissey, Zoe Gleeson, Sheila Brophy. Subs- Aoibhe Waters and Michaela Ryan (half time) and Kiera Walshe (2nd half).
