GAA -Juniors win County Final! On a cold wet evening in Nolan Park the Thomastown Junior showed their quality against Bennetsbridge with a final score of 3.13 to 10 points. Their training and hard work paid off and the Bob Alyward Cup made a welcome return to Thomastown! The scorers were Michael Donnelly 7 points, Jonjo Farrell 2 goals and 1 point, Tucker O’Hanrahan 1 goal and 2 points, Darren Burke 1 point, David Prendergast 1 point and Barry Whelan 1 point. Athletic Club News - Local athletes competed at the “B” Co. Championships in Kilmacow on Sunday. The wet conditions didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of our athletes with our girls taking the titles in the U10, 12 and U14 races. Medal winners in the U 8 race were 3rd Maria O’Keeffe, 6th Tara Fenlon, 9th Orla Kirwan 10th Niamh Galway and 11th Caoimhe Power. In the boys’ race David Holden had a good run to take 3rd. He was followed closely by Cian Farrell, Conor Kelly and Oisin O Reilly with Cormac Moore, Colm Treacy and Oisin Farrell also getting among the medals. Aine Kirwan and Anna Cass led the U10 race finishing 1st and 3rd respectively and with Edie Maher following closely in 7th the team took gold medals. The boys’ U10 team of Billy Power, Thomas Comerford and Pauric Kirwan finished 5th team. Sinead O’Keeffe took the lead from the start of the U12 race for a fine win and with Orla O Keeffe 3rd, Ellen Ryan 5th and dearbhla O Reilly providing good back up for gold team medals. The boys’ U12 team of Peter McDonald, Tom Holden and Liam Treacy were unlucky to miss out on medals in 4th place. Third winner of the day was Caoimhe Kelly who was in 2nd place for most of the race but with 200m to go Caoimhe took the lead and went on to take the gold medal. Ciara Morrissey also had a fine run but unfortunately the girls didn’t have a team. On Sunday the Leinster uneven age championships take place in Dunboyne, Co. Meath.The uneven age “B” Co Championships will take place in Thomastown on Dec 2nd.
