As part of their on-going commitment to Kilkenny writers, Kilkenny County Council Arts Office & Library Service has announced their spring 2013 Writers’ Workshops. This year they are running a Creative Prose course in City Library; Poetry in Thomastown Library and An Introduction to Creative Writing in Ferrybank Library.
Participants are expected to sign up and commit to the 6 weeks of their chosen course. There is a nominal fee of €25 to secure you place. Places are limited to 12 participants per course so please book early to avoid disappointment. As always there’s plenty going on in Callan at the Droichead FRC. Here’s just a taster of what’s happening in March; ‘Time out for Women’ is a social and educational project for Women of all ages in Callan and its hinterland. It provides training on a wide range of informational and practical topics. Some of the subjects that will be covered include: Calligraphy, Woodwork for Beginners, Financial Advice Workshop (MABS), Flower arranging, Stress Management (relaxation), Cookery & computers. Participants must complete all modules. This course will be run 2 mornings per week over 10 weeks at a cost of €50 per participant.
On Monday, March 25th from 10am – 1pm a composting expert will give a FREE composting & wildlife gardening talk providing information on how to community compost, home compost and give tips on how to attract wildlife into your garden.
There is also a once off low cost beginner’s computer course starting soon where you will learn to use the internet, email, skype & basic digital photography etc. It’s only €10 for 5 lessons with morning and evening courses available.
An open music, song & dance session takes place in Centre (The Friary) every Friday afternoon from 2pm – 4pm for the older folk in Callan and surrounding area. Admission is a very reasonable €2 per person. Any volunteer musicians are welcome to give a helping hand.
