SCRAP METAL COLLECTION - Goresbridge Rural Development is holding a scrap metal day this Friday 31st May. This is an opportunity to rid your house, garden, farm, business of unwanted metal that has been hanging around for ages.
Here is an idea of what you might like to get rid of, cookers, toasters, freezers, fridges, dryers, washing machines, radiators, ironing boards, saucepans, aluminium windows and doors, empty metal cans, lawnmowers, BBQ’s, goal posts, wheelbarrows, ladders, old wheels, bikes, go-carts, scooters, metal buckets, golf clubs, wheelbarrows, swing sets, old cars, farm machinery, gates, tanks, boilers, feeders, copper, sheets of galvanise, car, tractor and lorry batteries. Glanbia has kindly allowed the collection to be held in their yard from 9-5. It is hoped this scrap metal collection will raise funds to go towards tidy towns.
HISTORY TOUR - Barrowvale Local History Group will take a trip to Dublin on Thursday June 6. They hope to do a tour of Croke Park, Dublinia – Viking Museum and the Chester Beatty Library, the group has also accepted an invitation to visit the Mansion House. They will stop for a meal on the way home, it sounds like a great way to spend a day. You don’t have to be a member of the history group to go on the trip, all are welcome. CORPUS CHRISTI - Goresbridge Church will hold a Holy Hour (Prayer and Adoration) on Sunday June 2 at 4pm for the Year of Faith.
NO HAPPY ENDING - There was to be no happy ending for Paulstown boxer Keith Flavin in theAll Ireland under 18 final last Friday evening in the National Stadium. Over the previous weekend he stopped Ryan Clark of Dublin in the second round of their preliminary bout. In the quarter final he stopped David Worbel of the Trojan boxing club also in the second round. He then had a 17-4 win over Aidan Metcalfe from Crumlin in the semi-final. In the final he lost out to the current world bronze medallist Kurt Walker from the Canal Boxing Club, Belfast.
Shane Flavin along with two of his club mates, Jamie Cullen and Roy Sheehy were in action on the Irish Elite Junior Boxing team in Monaghan over the weekend when they took on Scotland in a tournament. All three lads were defeated, Shane by a single point 29 -28.
SPORTS AWARDS - It’s that time of the year again when the secondary schools hand out their Annual Sports Awards. In Bagenalstown De la Salle last week three Paulstown pupils were to the fore, Shane Flavin got the Outstanding Achievement Award in Sport, Miriam Bambrick got the Camogie Award and Michelle Kealy got the young athlete award.

PARISH PILGRIMAGE - The Parish Pilgrimage to Knock takes place on June 8. The bus will leave from Paulstown Church Gate at 7.15 sharp. The cost is €18 for adults, €10 for children. There will be a box provided for petitions in the main porch of both churches for the next two weekends for anybody unable to travel on this pilgrimage.
AMENDED DATE FOR GRAVEYARD MASSES - The following is a list of dates for Graveyard Masses in the Parish. Powerstown June 7, Ballyellen June 12, Goresbridge (old) June 29 at Vigil Mass, Wells July 5, Goresbridge (new) July 12, Paulstown (new) August 9, Paulstown (old) Sunday August 11 (11.30 Mass). Masses will be held at 7.30 with the exception of Paulstown (old).

TICKETS ON SALE, 5 CARS TO BE WON - The Kilkenny County Board Hurler’s Co-Op Draw (Piltown Draw) tickets are now available for sale. There are five draws starting on Tuesday June 11. There are 30 prizes to be won each month with the top prize being a car followed by, cash prizes and holidays. Barrow Rangers get to keep half the money from their ticket sales so it is a really important fundraiser for the club. Tickets are €50 each and can be purchased from any committee member or player, Peter Breen has them available in the Goresbridge area.

AMERICAN TEA PARTY - Ionad Dara will be the venue for an American Tea Party which will be held on Friday June 7. Tickets cost €10 and the much needed funds go towards Scoil Bhríde National School, Goresbridge. Tickets are available from the committee of the Board of Management and the committee of the Parent’s Association. Please support this fundraiser, it promises to be a great social night out.
