Darts - The third annual TJ O’Farrell memorial Darts tournament took place in Andy’s on 27 December with a record number of 70 entries. Great darts were played all day and in the finish Mick Meaney Jnr. (Coon) and Paschal O’Farrell (TJ’s brother) were presented with the top prize of beautiful crystal. Runners up were Jimmy O’Dwyer (Castlebanny) and Paddy Mulcahy (Hugginstown).
The shield was won by Joey Holden (Knockmoylan) and Ian Quinn (Mooncoin) and runners up were Dinny Murphy (Hugginstown) and Keith Monyleaux (Stoneyford). All prizes were presented by TJ’s father John and all monies raised through entrance fee, raffle and the band donating their fee were donated to the charity ‘Aware’ by the O’Farrell family. The organising committee would like to thank all players for attending and all the people who helped out to make it a very successful day and a tribute to TJ.
Tractor Run - As a tribute to the late Sean ‘Minty’ Malone and Martin ‘Murt’ Duggan a second Annual Tractor Run took place over the Christmas period. It was equally as successful as the one held last year when the news of heir tragic deaths in a road accident was still raw to everyone. Over 240 Tractors pulled out of the Hurling field and the street in Ballyhale for the run, which took several hours to travel a planned route around the south of the county, coming back to Ballyhale via the old N9 through Kilmacow and Mullinavat, pausing for prayers. The event was organised jointly by the Duggan and Malone families together with the Holden family and other close friends.
Separately from the Tractor Run Anniversary Masses were held in packed Churches both in Knockmoylan and in Ballyhale which were very well attended by family and friends alike.
In a lovely tribute to the two very popular lads the families also held a private event in the Hurling Field releasing ‘Letters to Heaven’ via Chinese lanterns. Prayers were said by the new P.P. and a poem was read out by Breena Duggan on behalf of the families.
Like all families affected by the tragic and sudden deaths of young people the lads passing is still very raw for both families, who are both very grief-stricken. All the rest of the Community can, and should do is to be as supportive as possible to each member of both families in expressing that grief.
