Kilkenny College Parents’ Association, in association with the College’s Guidance Department, recently hosted the bi-annual careers evening in the College.

All of forms four, five and six attended to meet over 90 speakers and the 15 universities and third-level colleges. The speakers’ occupations represented everything from accountancy to zoology.

The college Guidance Department and Parents’ Association were hugely grateful to guest speakers for making themselves available to the students of the college, and for giving so generously of their time.

Speaking after the event, Headmaster of Kilkenny College Ian Coombes said:

“In these times, the value of such events is hugely beneficial to the students and I am incredibly grateful to the many, many people who have given up their time and expertise so generously this evening. To also have 15 universities and third level colleges attend was fantastic.”

Many local firms were present; representatives from Prochem Engineering, State Street, KCLR, McDonalds, Duggans and Glanbia were among those who attended.

There were representatives from many state bodies there also. Lt Kieran Brennan from Stephen’s Barracks and Garda Aidan Fitzpatrick were both in attendance, as well as Declan Geoghegan and his Waterford Coastguard team.

“The scale of careers present was a wonderful chance for students to get insight directly from experts in their respective fields,” said Mr Coombes.
