MULLINAVAT GAA-The wheels well and truly came off in the quest for intermediate hurling honours in Thomastown last Sunday. In the second round of the league championship Mullinavat faced Clara who had been relegated from senior in 2011. This was billed as the game of the weekend at Intermediate level with the winner’s probably going top of the group. Clara had a good win against county finalists the Rower Inistioge while Mullinavat had a good win against neighbours Glenmore. So the scene was set for a cracker, alas it was not to be as Mullinavat were handed a master class in hurling by a hungrier more physical and clinical Clara team. Unusually for the Vat men they were beaten all over the field and at no stage looked like putting up a fight to the men in maroon and white. Looking at this game if Clara can keep this form going even at this early stage it looks as if they will be heading for an early return to the senior ranks.

For Mullinavat there will be little time to lick the wounds as they face arch rivals Mooncoin in Piltown on next Friday night. To make matters worse Ian Duggan had to come off with a knee injury which hopefully is not serious and that he will be available for Friday. Mullinavat will be without Shamie Farrell and Dinny Butler with the latter involved in a slightly different match as he gets married next weekend. Mooncoin have suffered two defeats so far but with the sight of a Mullinavat jersey they will rise to the occasion. Next Friday will test the heart and battle in this Mullinavat team and could be the defining moment in the league. For Mullinavat this is a must win game and we need only look to the corresponding fixture last year when Mooncoin handed out a comprehensive beating to the Vat men and stopped them from getting to the league final.

So all roads lead to Kilmacow Friday night for the showdown against Mooncoin. Hopefully the supporters will give the team another chance and the team will give the supporters something to cheer about. For the record the score line against Clara was Mullinavat 0-9 Clara 1-19.

MULLINAVAT COMMUNITY LOTTO-No winner of the local community lotto last week the numbers drawn were 6,8,14 & 18. Best of luck to all taking part this week.
